day to day lives. Both are commonly used in different media platforms such as
television, radio, news, social media, different websites, flyers, announcements,
etc., to persuade, to convince, to promote, or even to exaggerate.

Bias is generally seen as a ‘one-sided’ perspective. Bias is
often detected using some of the following technique.
1. Choice of word and Connotation – the cultural idea,
emotion and images associated to some word or
phrase. Two words may have the same meaning but
calls up different idea.
2. Name and Title – News media often use labels and titles
to describe people, places, and events.
3. Faulty Reasoning/Fallacy – drawing a conclusion based
on too little data. It is also referred ta as personal bias.
Remember:
Propaganda is a set strategies to persuade someone to
believe in an idea, support a cause, or buy a product. Some
commonly used propaganda techniques are:
1. Band Wagon – encouraging you to join, buy or believe in something
because everyone else is doing it.
2. Name Calling – calling the competition or opposing team names.
3. Testimonial – this technique involves having a celebrity or a
respectable person endorse a product, a person or a cause.
● Both Bias and Propaganda may be used ia a positive or negative way.
One just have to be careful in using the different techniques. Always
verify the source of information.
