1 Aim and Objective of the Experiment:

Aim:
To create a customized augmented reality lens using Lens Studio.
Objectives:
1. To learn the basics of Lens Studio and its features.
2. To create the necessary graphics and animations for the lens.
3. To incorporate interactivity into the lens, such as tap or swipe actions.
4. To test and refine the lens to ensure a seamless user experience.
5. To publish the lens on the Snapchat platform and share it with friends and family.

2 Theory:
Lens Studio is a software application developed by Snapchat that allows users to create augmented
reality (AR) lenses. AR lenses are digital overlays that can be applied to the camera view of a
smartphone, tablet, or other device to add various effects, animations, or filters to the real world.
To create a lens in Lens Studio, the user must first create or import 3D models, animations, textures,
or other assets that will be used in the lens. These assets can be created using 3D modeling software
or other digital content creation tools. Once the assets are imported into Lens Studio, the user can
manipulate them and add various interactions or behaviors using a visual scripting interface.
The scripting interface in Lens Studio uses a node-based system where the user can drag and drop
various modules to create a flow of events or interactions. These modules can include triggers,

events, animations, sounds, and more. The user can also add various parameters to these modules
to fine-tune the behavior of the lens.
After the lens is created, the user can publish it to the Lens Studio community or share it with
friends. Users can also submit their lenses to be featured on Snapchat’s lens carousel, where millions
of users can discover and use the lenses.
The process of creating a lens in Lens Studio requires knowledge of 3D modeling, animation, and
scripting. It also requires creativity and an understanding of user interaction design.

3 Code:
3.1 Tool Used/language:
Lens Studio is a software platform developed by Snap Inc. that enables users to create augmented
reality (AR) lenses for use in SnapChat. The platform provides a range of tools for creating AR
experiences, including 3D modeling and animation, scripting, and visual effects.
SnapChat is a social media application that allows users to share photos and videos with their
friends, as well as to discover and engage with content from brands and other users. The platform
also supports the use of AR lenses, which can be activated within the app to add interactive and
immersive experiences to photos and videos.
Using Lens Studio, creators can design and build their own AR lenses, which can range from simple
animations and visual effects to more complex interactive experiences. The platform provides a range
of templates and tutorials to help users get started, as well as an online community where users can
share their work and collaborate with other creators.
Once a lens is created using Lens Studio, it can be submitted to SnapChat for review and approval.
Once approved, the lens can be made available to SnapChat users worldwide, allowing them to add
the lens to their own photos and videos and share it with their friends.

4 Post Lab Question:
1. What are some other types of lenses that could be created using Lens Studio? How could these
lenses be used in different applications?
Other types of lenses that could be created using Lens Studio include:
(a) Face filters and effects - These are popular lenses that can be used to alter facial features,
add makeup, or create fun effects.
(b) Environmental lenses - These lenses can be used to add effects to the environment, such
as adding snow or rain to a scene.
(c) AR games - Lens Studio can be used to create AR games that can be played on a mobile
device.
(d) Product demonstrations - Companies can use Lens Studio to create lenses that showcase
their products or services.
These lenses can be used in a variety of applications, including entertainment, marketing,
education, and more. For example, face filters and effects are often used in social media apps for
entertainment purposes. AR games can be used to engage customers in marketing campaigns
or as educational tools. Product demonstrations can be used to showcase new products or
services in a unique and interactive way.
2. What are some potential future developments or advancements in Lens Studio technology that
could enhance the creation and use of lenses?
Lens Studio is continuously evolving and expanding its capabilities, and there are several
potential future developments and advancements that could enhance the creation and use of
lenses.
One possible area of development is the integration of more advanced computer vision and
machine learning technologies, which could enable lenses to recognize and interact with objects
and environments in real-time. This could potentially lead to more interactive and immersive
experiences, such as lenses that can recognize and track faces or gestures, or lenses that can
overlay virtual objects onto real-world environments.
Another potential area of development is the expansion of the Lens Studio platform to support
additional devices and platforms beyond Snapchat. This could include support for other
augmented reality platforms, such as Apple’s ARKit or Google’s ARCore, or integration with
other social media and messaging platforms.
Additionally, Lens Studio could potentially incorporate more advanced customization and
creation tools, such as 3D modeling and animation tools, to enable more complex and dynamic
lenses. This could open up new possibilities for lens creators and allow for more innovative and
engaging experiences for users.

5 Conclusion
1. We successfully created a customized augmented reality lens using Lens Studio.
2. We also published the lens on the Snapchat platform.
