Pre-reading 30 mins Motivation:
Ask this question: Which would you prefer to
have/ possess; wisdom or strength? And why?
Show a picture on biodiversity
Ask this question: What is their significant role in
the environment? (Briefly explain the symbiotic
relationship among living creatures. This is in
preparation of the text that they are about to
read.)
Unlocking of terms:
Activity: using the digital game
Option 1-Door of Riddles
Instructions: Present the door of riddles in class
for the unlocking of terms. Explain also to them
the meaning of each word after each riddle being
answered.
Option 2:
Read the riddles in class and ask the students to
choose their answer on the given words inside the
box.

Riddle 1: “I maybe uneducated but I possess something


that made me superior and allows me to rule over all
animals, making them do as I say.” What do you think I
have?
Answer: WISDOM- the ability to understand things that
most people cannot understand.
Riddle 2:” I am willing to agree to anything you want.
Go ahead and tie me up!” What do you think of me?
Answer: FOOLISH- having or showing a lack of good
sense or judgement.

Riddle 3: I plowed the rice field the whole morning and


only stopped for a while to have something to eat.” Who
do you think I am?
Answer: PEASANT- a poor farmer
Riddle 4: I am 10 times heavier and stronger; my horns
are sharp enough to kill my master, and my hooves are
mighty enough to trample him. But why can I never free
myself from his mastery”? Who am I?
Answer: BUFFALLO- a large animal like a cow with long
horns that lives in Asia.
Riddle 5: “I maybe small and upright being in which the
only weapon I have is a flimsy bamboo stick, yet I am in
authority to take control all animals.” What do you
think I have?
Answer: POWER- the ability or right to control people or
things.

During Reading 120 mins


 let the students read the text entitled; “The
Peasant, the Buffalo and the Tiger” (Vietnam Tale)
 A hard copy and digital copy of the text are
provided, you can choose either of the two to use
in class.
 While they are reading the text, please instruct
them to do the activity.
 Think a loud: Answer the following
questions:
1. What was so amazing about the farmer
that the tiger would like to possess?
2: What puzzled the water buffalo about
the farmer?
3: How did the farmer prepare to get rid of
the tiger?
4: How did the tiger accept defeat?
5: Did the water buffalo’s perception of the
farmer change after what happened to the
tiger?
6: What do you think is the moral of the
story?
7: What is the theme of the tale?
8. What do these characters symbolize?
 Peasant
 Tiger
 Buffalo
Answers:
1. Wisdom of the farmer
2. The water buffalo was puzzled why he is under the
command of the farmer despite of his strength.

3. The farmer prepares to get rid of the tiger by doing


the following:
 Tricking the tiger that he kept his wisdom
inside the box
 Piling straws around the tiger
 Burning the tiger’s body
4. The tiger accepts defeat by means of realizing that
he could never defeat man’s wisdom that he could
never have.
5. Answers vary
6. The moral of the story is Don’t let others fool you
and be a wise man just like the peasant in the
story.
7. The theme is “Strength is nothing without wisdom.

B. Tiger- proud/ over confidence of his strength
C. Buffalo- lack of knowledge

Choose one (1) on any of these activities:


 Comic strip: Create a comic strip that would
represent wisdom and strength on which is better
between these two or you can have it also in a
form of debate.
 Song: Sing a song in any tune that would sum up
the message or the theme of the story.
 Answer these questions in a form of a song:
Post Reading 30 mins 1. Can unity be achieved however diverse the
characters are in the story?
2. How can we keep a harmonious relationship in our
environment?
 Dialogue: Present a dialogue wherein you give an
advice to the tiger when he said: “I would like to
have that wisdom that the man has, but how am I
going to acquire that?
