1. a) What are the major objectives of network planning? [2]

b) Mention the ill-effects due to improper road drainage.

c) Why quality control is essential in construction of rural roads?

d) List out various types of sub- grade soil stabilization.

e) Write any desirable properties of road aggregates.

f) Write any three failure criteria’s considered for flexible pavement design.

2. a) What are the different problems arising during planning of rural road system?

b) How is the present rural road systems improved?

3. a) Give the design procedure for embankment with specification for amount of
compaction.

b) Give the design procedure for soil sub grade.

4. a) Write the details of equipment used for pulverizing of soil and mixing of
admixtures with soil during construction of pavements.

b) In detail, write the method of soil stabilization using lime and fly ash
including construction steps.

5. a) Mention the frequency of conducting the quality control tests for earth and
granular layers as per rural roads quality control manual.

b) Write step wise design procedure of C.C. pavement as per IRC: SP-62-2004.
