UNIT 2

1)Explain the advantages of Per unit system. Write the per unit impedance formula for a given
base kilovolt amperes and base kilovolts

2)Explain how3 phase transformer is represented in per unit for power system studies.

4)What are the different types of connection schemes for AC distribution system? Discuss their
advantages and disadvantages.

5)A single phase AC distribution AB is 500 m long and is fed at end A. The load on the
distributor are; 1).100A at 0.909 pf lag 300m from point A. 2)150A at 0.9 pf lag 500 m from
point A. The total resistance and reactance of distributor is 0.2 Ohms and 0.1ohm per km.
Calculate the total voltage drop in the distributor the load pf referred to voltage at the far end.

UNIT 3

1)Find the inductive reactance per km per phase for the circuit of 3 phase line.The GMD of each
conductor is 1 cm and spacing between conductors are D12=D23=6.5m and D13=12m.Circuit is
operating at 50Hz.

(3)Derive the equation for String Efficiency. Discuss the significance and what are the methods
to improve the string efficiency?

4)What do you mean by grading of the cable? Explain all methods in detail.

5)A string of six insulators is to be fitted with guard ring.If the pins to earth capacitance are all
equal to C, the values of line to pine capacitance that would give a uniform voltage distribution
over string.

UNIT 4

1)How transmission lines are classified? Give the representation for nominal T and Nominal pia
circuit and Derive the generalized constants for above representation.

2)A 15000 KVA load is received at 33 KV and 0.85 pf lagging over 8 km,50hz, 3 phase
transmission line .Find

(i)Sending end voltage ,sending end current and sanding end power factor

(ii)Voltage regulation

(iii) Transmission efficiency.

Given that the resistance and reactance of each conductor is 2.32 ohm and 5.2 ohm respectively.

3)Draw nominal Pia circuit for medium line and explain the quantities therein. Also draw a
phasor diagram showing phase relationship between various voltages and currents in nominal pia
circuit.
