Discussion

The stories are interpreted on the basis of main theme of the story, main hero,
needs of the hero, significant conflicts, nature of anxiety, main defense mechanism used by the
hero, conception of the environment, relationship with significant figures, adequacy of the hero
and intelligence.

While analyzing stories for the participants, it was seen that the participant has presented hero
as a male figure and participant presented hero to have positive traits as obedient to parents,
striving for success, care for his siblings, trying to be humble while having everything.

The main theme of the stories shows that in most of the stories the participant presented hero
as a male figures and participant hero as rich. Then, a sudden change and loss of his father
occurs, after that he presented hero as poor, miserable who is striving for achieving his status
back as reflected in stories 2,3BM,6BM,7GF and 10. This can be related to his history as his
father business was well settled and then he faces a loss. As the participant is only son of his
parents, he was brought up with great care. But now he is striving for his goal of becoming a
doctor.

The participant might have a poor body image as in story 7 he referred the hero as being sick
and in story 1 he shows his violin as broken.

The participants show that hero has great attachment and affection for his parental figures in
the stories 1, 2, 4 and 6BM. The upbringing background suggest that the participant’s parents are
authoritative that take child feelings into consideration. Ranjbarrizi (2017), suggest that parent-
child attachment has a mediating effect on the relationship between authoritarian parenting and
grade and no effect on permissive parenting style and grades. As the participant parents has
authoritative parenting style and the participant is a high achiever also, this need for
achievement.

Need for acquisition is shown in the form that he want to acquire material possessions like
before and don’t feel like deprived as he feels one.

The participant is in that stage of life where most of teens require the need to be associate
with someone or have a fantasy. Maybe this reason seems to involve the need of affiliation for
the participant is in the stage of life where most of teens as he refers the hero in story 4, 9 and 10.

The participant’s need of succorance is shown by the fact that the participant introduced
parents in most stories to care for the hero or fulfilling his demands. As depict in the story 1, 2, 3,
4, 5 and 6 the participant has introduced parental figures mostly mother, as he is more attached to
his mother and very sensitive about his significant relationship.

The participant seems to have anger tantrums as he told that he feels like throwing objects
when history is tapped. This shows his need of aggression. Her anger usually in form of anger
out by showing a throwing objects away. Research suggest that one family level stressor that
may put chiller and adolescents at increased risk for the developed of aggressive or antisocial
behaviors is economic hardships employment, and negative economic events and pressure.

In story 6, the participant wants to play but the press of dominance creates a conflict between
them. In story 7 he wants to study hard but at the same time caught in an accident creates a press
of affiliation on the need of achievement. In story 8, the main conflict is between the press of
physical danger and the need for harm avoidance. The other conflict is between the need of
socialization and lack of human support. The other conflict is between the need of associating
with opposite gender and but at the same time fears the loss of significant relationship. In story
10, the main conflict in the story was the aggression on the wife a being guilty for his aggression
on wife

The participant has average adequacy, in most stories the outcome of his adequacy was
quite optimistic, happy and realistic. His background information also supports that his coping
skills are adequate. Whenever there is a stressful situation his reality testing in intact.

The participant seems to have average intelligence although he is a high achiever. Diary,
strand, smith & Fernandez (2007) suggested that there is a high correlation between intelligence
and educational achievement.

Conclusion

It can be conclude that the main needs and drives of the participants are of
achievement, affiliation and acquisition. The main fears and the conflicts the subject projected
were achievement and loss, need of affiliation and need of rejection, need of acquisition and
press of lack. The most common defenses used by the subject were intellectualization,
projection, isolation and denial and sublimation. The stories depict well integrated ego strength
of the subject. His ego functions show that his reality testing, judgment, object relation an
thought process fall in normal range. The plot of stories shows structured and complete thought
processes.

Limitations and Suggestions

• The results cannot be the true representation of the participant as the interpretation was
subjective on the part of examiner.
• The examiner was inexperienced an untrained.
• TAT has poor psychometric properties as its validity and reliability is low.
• Another projective test should be one on participant to get pure interpretation of
participant’s personality.
