Diploma or Diskarte: A
Phenomenological Study of
Contemporary Societal Trends and Why
Research Matters

Ronaldo B. Marquez, Jr.

Head Writer and Managing Editor of Philippine Elite Writers

Abstract

This paper elaborates a discussion of diploma or diskarte as an intellectual context for

understanding the contemporary societal trends which will shed light whether diskarte matters

the most than education and vice-versa. It aims to prove that education matters as a response to

multiple claims made by vloggers and other unverified claims in social media platforms.

Education has the potential to prevent the solidification of strategy. As long as strategy or

diskarte exists, education has the ability to redefine it. Education can become a diskarte, but it

cannot become education.

Introduction

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.1

It has been popular these days that diskarte in life will save you more than diploma that someone

had earn throughout their school formal education. There may have been some success stories of

people who stop their schooling or did not take education at all, but this is not the reality and

norm in the society nowadays. In particular, that it is 21st century, diploma or education is one of

the key elements for success and for certain things the employers will find when you applied for

a job. Specially if it is a higher position in the company or to any workplace the person has been

applying for. Individuals who claim to have gained diskarte will certainly not be hired over those

who have a formal bachelor's degree and have pursued more education. Given that possessing

diskarte is a key commodity for improving your life. The fact that you are educated is a distinct

level of diskarte in itself. Because having education and diskarte allows you to live a better life

by combining and applying both in your career and business.

Resourcefulness, Responsibility and Respect2 are the known three R’s of Education as has been

published by an article in LinkedIn. As can be seen, having diskarte as a near similarity showed

that resourcefulness is also being discussed in school. With this prevalent stance, it is clear that

education always takes precedence over these common statements that diskarte is more

important than education. It is true that diskarte is an essential element for success, but it should

complement with formal education rather than replace it by diskarte alone and debunking the

education itself. Education provides holistic knowledge and structured frameworks that can helps

the diskarte to be more rational as it will create a more creative problem solving in the real-world

scenarios. 3

Work Related Matters

In every measurable category, college graduates are doing better than their non-degree attaining

peers, the research found. What’s more, the study found the gap between those who have a

degree and do not have a degree is wider than it has ever been in modern history. 4 The Pew

Research Center also found that college graduates between the ages of 25 and 32 make more

each year than those within the same age group with only a high school diploma or less

equivalent.5 The study also shows that those with college education are more likely to have a

full-time employment than those with only a high school diploma and are far less likely to be

unemployed. With this, it is obvious that those who have diploma have a higher chance of

success in the field of work either corporate or government related job as far as the educational

requirements is concerned and thus far shows that they have more capabilities than those who

only possessed diskarte alone in life.
