ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS AT CCHS

INTRODUCTION

Social media in this day and age has become an essential part of students all
All over the world not just in the Philippines due to the prominence of modern technology. Now
we’ll talk about the effects of the excessive use of this digital technology among the Grade 10
students of Camp Crame High School (CCHS), A High School located in thtePhilippines,Quezon
City,Metro Manila. The active usage of social media in the school

raises questions about its effects on the academic performances of the students spend a

significant amount of time on social media platforms for various reasons, from staying

connected with friends to seeking entertainment or news updates. However, the excessive

use of social media may make it more difficult for students to concentrate on their acads,

and finish assignments and such. excessive social media can affect students well-being
and Social development. As a students spend more and more time online they may
become more stressed, anxious, or feel like comparing themselves to other people online.
In addition, excessive use of social media may bring a lack of activity or exercise and
may

have negative effects on the students physical health and mental health and develop

problems such as obesity and sleep disorders or depression, self-esteem issues, and body

image issues.

Supporting Grade 10 students at Camp Crame High School (CCHS) in both their acads

and Personal Growth.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


The excessive usage of social media among Grade 10 students at (CCHS), can affect
their academic performance.Many students in the world,not just CCHS, generally use
social media for various reasons like socializing,killing time or boredom,or not missing
out on news ,etc. However excessive use can lead to negative effects on a students
academic learning/growth,Students use their devices to use social media in class rather
than paying attention to the teacher’s lesson or procrastination due to constantly scrolling
through social media.
In other words,excessive social media use of Grade 10 students at Camp Crame
High School (CCHS) can hurt their academic performance and learning.It leads to
Distarctions during class,disrupts study routines,interferes with sleep, and correlates
with lower grades for the students.To address this issue, its crucial to promote responsible
and discipline digital habits and prioritize academics.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


The effects of the excessive use of social media ,many grade 10 students at CCHS
use social media as part of their daily lives,but this gradually affects their academic

performance because of using this .
Lack of sleep of the Grade 10 students has been a problem because of using social media
More than 24 hours, it is true that social media has positive impacts on the users
Especially the Grade 10 students but we cannot ignore the negative impacts of it.
At first students have planned to use social media just for 5 or 10 minutes but
Unfortunately they spent too much time and they just wasted their time.
Social media can be incredibly addictive especially to students,that can affect their
daily exercises because instead of exercising they use social media all night.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


Though social media,as the name suggests,is expected to keep people students
Connected,probably this social connection is only superficial,and not adequately deep
and meaninful to help individuals feel emotionally attached to others.The phsychological
effects of social media on student life need to be studied in more depth to see whether
students can use social media to cope with negative emotions and develop positive
feelings or not.In other words,knowledge of the potential effects of the growing use of
social media on (CCHS),students’emotional well-being can bridge the gap between the
alleged promises of social media and what actually has to offer to students in terms of
self-concept,self-respect,social role, and coping strategies(for stress,anxiety,etc)
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS
This study investigates the negative effects of excessive social media use on the
Academic performance of Grade 10 students at CCHS.It focuseson students within a
Specific age range (14-16 years old) and confines the research to Grade 10 students at
(CCHS) ,excluding other grade levels or schools. The study analyzes the impact of social
Media on academic performance metrics such as GPA, exams scores, and attendance
records,using quantitative methods within a defined timeframe (e.g.,one academic
semester or school year).Specifically , the research delves into the detrimental effects of
excessive social media use,excluding positive effects or benefits from the scope of
Investigatiom.
DEFINTION OF TERMS
The habit of spending an unusually large amount of time on social networking

Platforms,to the point where it interferes with daily activities,responsibilities,or mental
well-being .Mental well-being ,it interferes with the students.

Users and has uncover some alarming finding, as revealed by the wall
