Introduction
Attendance is an essential aspect of a student’s success. There are many
reasons why it should be highly valued. In order for students to learn and
achieve their fullest potential, it is critical that they are in school and
engaged in the learning process. In the context of education, absenteeism
refers to the habitual or deliberate refusal to attend

classes; hence, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, chronic absence is
defined as every student's occasional absence from school events, but when a
student is absent for a long period of time, it becomes an issue. A student's
capacity for academic success is impacted by absences from class. In addition,
there is evidence that chronic absenteeism from school is a primary cause of

low academic achievement and a powerful predictor of a student’s risk of
dropping out of school.
This paper aims to implement an incentive-based intervention that will
benefit every student’s to improve their attendance and their academic
performance.
Background of the Study
Attendance is one of the most significant factors in the development of a
student's academic performance in school. This is due to the performance and
skill they have to shape and develop inside the school and be motivated,
inspired, and attach to their attendance for their future purposes.

Attendance interventions for chronically absent students provide support
and resources to address individual factors that contribute to absences. Such
programs can be implemented by schools, principal, teachers and school
organizations. In addition, the use of incentive-based intervention to improve
the attendance and academic performance can be perceived as beneficial among
students.
This concept paper will examine some potential issues that students may
have that affect their attendance and discuss solution thorough incentive-based
intervention to help the students be motivated and pursue to go to school even
without a command from their parents and guardians.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, absenteeism is "chronic
absence". In the context of school, it is the habitual or

intentional failure to attend school, while every student is away from school
for many days. Going to school regularly is crucial for a student’s education
and social skills.
The absences of students from class are one of the issues that teachers
face. Educators plan lesson plans or daily lesson logs with the goal of
ensuring that every student in the class learns from

them and a pleasant experience when all of the students are present on that
particular day and the following days to guarantee optimal learning.
Based on the observations, there are a few students deemed academically
successful who also have attendance issues, and a few students who struggle
academically but are always present. However, in most cases, strong attendance
correlates with academic success and poor attendance

correlates with academic struggle. In other words, chronic absenteeism will
lead to frustration for the student. The more classes they miss, the more
difficult it becomes to catch up with their lessons and go to school.
Eventually, the student is put on a path toward being a high school dropout,
which makes it even more critical to find early intervention strategies to
prevent absenteeism from ever becoming an issue.

The goal of this approach is to increase student attendance,
Relationship-building, routine monitoring of variable indicators, tailored and
prompt interventions, long-term commitment, motivation, and continuity in terms
of education and affiliation with the school and learning are key
characteristics of the program components.

This intervention program will surely help the school and teachers to
reduce and avoid absenteeism and otherwise, will benefit the students to keep
them inspired and motivate them to give an importance of attaining classes.

Project Description
This concept paper entitled “Improving Attendance and Academic
Performance through Incentive-Based Intervention” is aspiring to provide an
intervention program for improving students' attendance and propose solutions
for reducing school absenteeism. Also, to find solutions in this particular
problem and conduct an exclusive program to reduce

or avoid absenteeism, such as an intervention program where teachers must be
taught or trained to deal with the students according to their needs and psyche
in order to meet individual differences, the behaviour of teachers shall be
given due consideration in the training sessions, parents and teachers must
have a good relationship with each other for the benefit of the child and his
future, activities like debates, funfairs, educational or recreational tours

should be arranged to attract the students to school, and also teachers must be
give an Incentives and rewards to the students seems to be another effective
means of increasing attendance, as well as Perfect Pals programs. It was the
most effective means for modifying student attendance at school. Perfect Pals
was an incentive program used for students who had perfect attendance and no
tardies. These students earned lunch in the lobby, small treats, and their free
breakfast and a mini bus that will help the students to go to the school and go
back to their home. It will be done through the use of survey questionnaire to
get input on the issues that schools and teachers facing from students; examine
the data gathered from survey to determine the factors of why the students are
absents. To implement the project, the proponents shall follow timeline or the
work plan of this intervention.

The project will be conducted over a period of 2 months. The first

week of a month will focus on encouraging the students to attend classes
and explain them with practice activities that will allow them to apply
the strategies they have learned in this paper. The second week of a
month until last week will focus on applying and observation to the
intervention and strategies to all entire students such as Incentive
Based Intervention, Breakfast Club, Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies
and Mini Bus. The last month is to determine if progress has been made
after three weeks of observation and applying. If my proposed project is
proven effective, then the project may extend and will continue to do
with it.
The expected outcome of this project is for students to improve

their attendance and academic performance and also, it is hoped that the
students will become more engaged in attaining
classes and give appreciation to the volunteers, time, money and effort
to succeed with this intervention and reduce absenteeism.
Project Needs and Cost
This project will have need of the following resources:
 Fund for the survey questionnaire that will gather in this paper.
 Access to school to accomplish the framework and conduct the survey.

 This intervention must be support of the school especially the Principal,
Teachers, and Utilities.
 The Staff who will take care of the students' breakfast.
 This Intervention may cost 500, 000 .00 pesos in giving the students a
free breakfast in at least two times a week, an extra treat from
teachers, and also for mini bus.
