III. PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

1) Reviewing previous lesson ELICIT
or presenting a new lesson • Greetings
• Attendance
Let’s have first a short review to check if
you have learned something from your
previous quarter. During in the first
quarter the topics that you have discuss
fall under the branch of science called
Biology – study of life (respiratory,
circulatory and even photosynthesis
and other related topics of it) and
during in the 2nd quarter those topics
fall on Chemistry, you focus on matter.
During the 3rd quarter we’ve talk about
volcanoes, climate and arrangement of
star basically fall on the branch of
science called earth science.

• Now, what about for this 4 th Physics ma’am!

quarter. What do you think the
branch of science we’re going to
talk about?

Yes right, it’s physics. We will be going

to study about matter and energy and
how they interact one another.
Law of inertia, Law of acceleration
• What are the three laws of and Law of interaction
motion?

Isaac Newton
• Who is the proponent of this law
of motion?

In Grade 8 you have learned about

Newton’s Second Law of Motion – the
Law
of Acceleration. According to this law,
the net force (F) is equal to the product
of the mass (m) of the object and its
acceleration (a), F=ma.

• Can you state this Law?

Let’s have a simple activity to refresh

your mind.

Direction: State the Second Law of

Motion by completing the paragraph
below. Choose your answer from the
two words inside the parentheses for
each number. Newton’s Second Law of
Motion:
The Law of 1. ___________
(Inertia/Acceleration)

The acceleration of an object as

produced by a net force is 2. ___________
(directly/inversely) proportional to
the magnitude of the net force, in the 3.
___________ (same/opposite) direction
as the net force, and 4. ___________
(directly/inversely) proportional to
the 5. ___________ (mass/weight) of the
object.

It is good that you can still recall the

Law of Acceleration! Remember that
the larger the force applied on an
object, the larger its acceleration.
Usually, the acceleration of a body may
change and vary from time to time due
to several factors.

If that is the case, when can we say that

there is constant acceleration?

Today’s lesson, we will focus on

describing uniformly accelerated
motion: Horizontal Dimension

2) Establishing a purpose for ENGAGE

the lesson
Now before we proceed to our topic
allow me to present to you our learning
objective for today’s lesson.

➢ Describe Uniformly Accelerated The student will read the

Motion in horizontal dimension objectives.
➢ Calculate the uniformly
accelerated motion of
horizontal dimension.
➢ Appreciate the application of
uniformly accelerated in daily
life

At the end of lesson, you will learn

about characteristics of horizontal
dimension like the variables of it and
after that you will solve uniformly
accelerated motion in some real-life
problems and lastly, what is the
importance of understanding uniformly
accelerated motion in our daily life.

Okay, did you understand? Yes ma’am

Before we begin our lesson, let’s play with
some anagrams. You must form word that
corresponds to the indicated description.
Go to your respective group.

DISTANCE; IT DANCES – length of space

between two point

VELOCITY; LOVE CITY- tells how fast an

object moves towards a direction

ACCELERATION; OCEANIC ALERT- rate of

change of velocity with respect to time

MOTION; TINOMO- a change in position

from one place to another

Guide questions:
• Are you familiar with these words?
• Okay! Can someone enlighten us
what are those words? Answer may vary
• What is really a motion?
• What are the differences of speed
and velocity?
• What are the differences of
distance and displacement?
• What are the differences of time
and acceleration?

So, today you will encounter these

words as we go through our discussion.

Are you ready to travel with me Yes ma’am

throughout this lesson?

3) The Presenting EXPLORE

examples/instances of the
There are actually different types of motion
new lesson
but in this quarter, we will be going to
discuss about what we call “uniformly
accelerated motion.

• Can anyone tell me what do really

mean by uniformly accelerated
motion? Or when is an object in a
uniformly accelerated motion?

A body is said to have uniform acceleration

if it maintains a constant change in its
velocity in each time interval along a
straight line.

Uniformly accelerated motion can be in X-

axis and Y-axis. But let’s first focus on the x-
axis.
For example: An object is moving from rest
and accelerates uniformly at a rate of
2m/s2
Time VELOCIT ACCELER
TIME VELOCITY Y ATION
(seconds) (m/s) (m/s2)
1 2 1 2 2
2 4 2 4 2
3 6 3 6 2
4 8 4 8 2
5 10 5 10 2

• Based on the table, how can we say

that there is a uniformly
accelerated motion of an object?

Let’s try two more example about this

for you to understand what uniformly
accelerated is.

Example of UAM

➢ A ball rolling down an incline

➢ A car moving with a constant
acceleration

Let’s discuss this one by one.

The teacher will use chalk and board to

explain the given examples for the
students to comprehend more with the
lesson.

Uniformly accelerated motion refers

to the motion of an object that is
experiencing a constant acceleration. In
this type of motion, the object's velocity
changes by the same amount in each
successive equal time interval.

4) Discussing new concept and EXPLAIN

practicing new skills #1
UAM equations:
𝑽𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊 + 𝒂𝒕
𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒅
𝑽𝒇 + 𝑽𝒊
𝒅= 𝒕
𝟐
• How many variables that is
within these equations?

1. Vf= Final Velocity

2. Vi= Initial Velocity
3. a= Acceleration
4. t= time
5. d= displacement/distance

Guide questions:
• What is the unit of Velocity?
• What is the unit of Acceleration?
• What is the unit of time?
• What is the unit of
displacement/distance?

Sample problem:
➢ Form rest a car accelerated at
8m/s2 for 10s.

a. What is the position of

the car on the end of the
10 seconds?
b. What is the velocity of
the car at the end of the
10 seconds?

• What is asked for the letter a?

How about letter b?
• Who will try to solve the letter
a?

➢ When you’re going to solve, you

need first to have three
variables. With this you must
analyze carefully the given
question.

Let’s try to solve with the letter a.

• What are the given?
➢ a= 8 m/s2
➢ t= 10s
➢ Vi= 0 m/s

• What is asked again? Distance ma’am

So, we’re going to find out the distance

of the car on the end of the 10 seconds.
d=?
The students will try to figure
out of what formula is best to
• What formula we’re going to
use with the problem.
use?
The UAM equation were already given.
With these equations, you need to find
out what particular equation you will be
using in finding the distance.

UAM equations:
𝑽𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊 + 𝒂𝒕
𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒅
𝑽𝒇 + 𝑽𝒊
𝒅= 𝒕
𝟐

As you can see, there are two distance,

right? So, we need to eliminate the two
equations.

• What will be the next step to

determine the equation that we
need to use to solve the
problem?

From the two equations, you just need

to check if the given variables were
inside the equation. If the given
variables were present inside the
equation, it is the perfect equation for
us to solve the problem.

• Did you understand?

We already find out the equation for us

to solve the problem which is the
𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐

Now, you just need to substitute the

value of the given variables.
𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐
Given:
a= 8 m/s2
t= 10s
vi= 0 m/s
d=?

𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐
𝒅 = (𝟎 𝒎/𝒔)(𝟏𝟎𝒔) + (. 𝟓)(𝟖 𝒎/𝒔𝟐)( 𝟏𝟎𝒔)𝟐
𝒅 = (𝟎) + (𝟒𝒎/𝒔𝟐)( 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝒔𝟐)
𝒅 = 𝟒𝟎𝟎 𝒎
• Everyone, try to solve the letter b What is the velocity of
b and after that, I’ll call someone the car at the end of the 10
to show his/her answer on the seconds?
boar.
Given:
a= 8 m/s2
t= 10s
vi= 0 m/s
vf=?

Formula and Solution:

𝑽𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊 + 𝒂𝒕
𝑽𝒇 = (𝟎 𝒎/𝒔) + (𝟖 𝒎/𝒔𝟐) (𝟏𝟎𝒔)
𝑽𝒇 = 𝟖𝟎 𝒎/𝒔

The teacher will check together with the

class if the answer is correct.

Do you understand? Any questions or

clarifications?

5) Developing mastery (Leads ELABORATE

to formative Assessment 3)
Horizontal Dimension – X axis

• Are you familiar with the x-y axis

or the cartesian plane?
• Where is the horizontal part of
this graph?
• How about the vertical?

Now, let’s focus first on the horizontal

dimension.

Problem:
➢ With the initial velocity of 20
m/s, a car accelerated at 8 m/s2
for 10 seconds.
a. What is the position of
the car after 1 0
seconds?
UAM equations:
𝑽𝒇 𝒙 = 𝑽𝒊𝒙 + 𝒂𝒙𝒕
𝒅𝒙 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒙𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒙𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒙 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒙𝒅𝒙
𝑽𝒇𝒙 + 𝑽𝒊𝒙
𝒅𝒙 = 𝒕
𝟐

• Let’s try to solve the problem. Step 1:

The steps we used earlier are Identify the given:
the same steps of solving with vix= 20 m/s
this problem. It’s just that we a= 8 m/s2
put x for the motion of the car, t= 10 s
which is horizontal. d=?

Step 2 formula and solution:

𝒅𝒙 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒙𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒙𝒕𝟐
𝒅𝒙 = (𝟐𝟎 𝒎/𝒔)(𝟏𝟎 𝒔) + (. 𝟓)(𝟖 𝒎/𝒔𝟐)(𝟏𝟎𝒔)𝟐
𝒅𝒙 = 200 𝑚 + (4 m/s2) (100s2)
𝑑𝑥 = 200 𝑚 + 400 𝑚
𝒅𝒙 = 𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝒎

Class, go to your respective group. We

will be having a group activity.

Group Activity: Problem Solving

Direction: Solve the given problem that
were assigned to your group. Choose
one representative to present your
output.

Here is the rubric for your performance

3.25 seconds and covers a distance of dx= 15 m
15 m. Determine the acceleration of the Vix= 0 m/s
jeepney. a=?

Find: a =? Step 2: Formula and Solution

Formula: 𝑑𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖 𝑥𝑡 + 1/2𝑎𝑥𝑡 2
𝑑𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖 𝑥𝑡 + 1/2𝑎𝑥𝑡 2 15 m = (0 m/s) (3.25) +(0.5) a (3.25 s)²
15 m = (0.5) a(10.56s²)
15 m = 5.28 s²a
a = 15 m/5.28 s²
a= 2.8 m/s²

Group 2 and 4: A car is moving with a Step 1: Given

constant acceleration of 2 m/s2. If the a= 2 m/s²

the final velocity and displacement after t= 8 s
8 seconds. a. Vf=?
b. d=?
Find: Vf =?
d =? a. Step 2: Formula and Solution
Formula: 𝑉𝑓 𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖𝑥 + 𝑎𝑥𝑡
➢ 𝑉𝑓 𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖𝑥 + 𝑎𝑥𝑡 Vfx = 5 m/s + (2 m/s²) (8 s)
➢ 𝑑𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖 𝑥𝑡 + 1/2𝑎𝑥𝑡 2 Vfx = 5 m/s + 16 m/s
Vfx = 21 m/s

b. Step 2: Formula and Solution

𝑑𝑥 = 𝑉𝑖 𝑥𝑡 + 1/2𝑎𝑥𝑡 2
dx = (5 m/s) (8 s) + (0.5) (2 m/s²)
(8 s)²
dx =40 m + (1 m/s²) (64 s²)
dx = 40 m + 64 m
dx = 104 m
