PAKISTAN CULTURAL DAY

As part of Community Partnership Program we collaborated with Australian Asian Association (AAA) and ILC Multicultural Aged Care Services in organising an information day fo rhealth professionals and aged care providers in WA. The event which was first of its kind was attended by about 35 participants. Mr. Rahim Ghauri, Vice Presidnet of AAA formally opened the event with Khalid Bashir, President APNAPAN @UWA providing an over view of the Paklistani community in WA. This was followed by a short movie on Pakistan. Dr. Fehmida Fasim who had come all the way from Sydney briefed the participants about various cutlural practices and festivals celebrated in Pakistan. Dr. Asifa Farhat spoke at length about carious health related practices prevalent in the community followed by a session on Death and Dying experience with particular emphasis on Muslims. The final session offered participants an opportunity to discuss relevant issues with the speakers and ask questions. Amar of Independent Living Centre was the facilitator of the event. Participants also enjoyed Henna paintings on their hand and delecious food provided by Abid Bajwa of Maya Masala (Success). A big thank you to Manil de Mel for coordinating the whole event. We have also received invitation to convene a similar day for South Metropoletean Region. Our next step is now to produce a cultural information booklet fo raged care providers which will be a valuable resource for them as well. If anyone is interested in working with us on this project you are welocme to drop us a line and we will see how we can collaborate. The photographs of this event can be accessed through our facebook page.

EID MELA 2011 The event organised by Pak ladies was huge success with delicious food and colourful presence of Pakistani community who were both volunteers and attendees to celebrate Eid ul Azha. The event was a fundraiser to collect funds for the mosque at Russell Road and provided the community to have a meet and greet day with mouth-watering dishes up for sale.

PACS EID GET TOGETHER

There was an unannounced Eid Get together where attendees have enjoyed Charcoaled Barbecue and still the discussion is on facebook as to where do they get all the equipment (Pakistani style). While Wasif already receives most hits for his photographs, this time around it is his Kheer which has won few hearts and he has already committed to do it again provided an invitation to BBQ is extended to him so Greenwood will be soon embracing his presence over a possible pool party
