CRICKET – The Uniting Sport

India live and breathe two things – Cinema and
Cricket. Though, cricket is not our national game, it is a
national obsession. Every Indian is passionate about
cricket and treats the players as gods.
Cricket is like a uniting force of our
country. It binds people in unbreakable bond of love,
patriotism, fan following and respect for the Indian
team.
There is nothing more entertaining than
watching a nail-biting cricket match. People of all ages,
from youngest to oldest, go crazy, forgetting all their
work and worries. They cheer for India to win. There is
huge sense of belongingness, brethren and pure love
for Indian team in ‘blue’. All questions and divisive
feelings of different social, financial and religious status
vanish during the matches.
When India won the world cup in
1983, the captain of Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev,
proved that India can shine on global stage despite all
challenges. Since then, great players like Sachin
Tendulkar, M.S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli have made India
proud with their amazing skills and scores.
Indian cricket has great power to heal
forgive and coalesce. Every victory is celebrated as a
national festival and defeat is mourned together by
everyone. Our country may have various languages,
castes, states and regions but the love for cricket
unites the entire nation.
