Q.
Question CO BL
No.
An ammonia refrigerator produces 30 tonnes of ice from and at 0 C in 24 hours.
The temperature range of compressor is 25 C to -15 C. The vapour is dry saturated
at the end of compression and an expansion valve is used. Assume the COP is 60
% of the theoretical value. Calculate the power required to run the compressor.
Latent heat of ice is 335 kJ/kg. The properties of ammonia are as below:
Temperature, C Enthalpy, kJ/kg Entropy, kJ/kgK

with single compressor and expansion valve. Draw the cycle on a P-h chart.
Illustrate the working of Practical Vapour Absorption Refrigeration system with
the help of neat sketch.

of refrigerant-absorbent combination for an absorption system.
Illustrate the improvement in simple vapour compression refrigeration cycle by
incorporation of accumulator or precooler.

CO BL
Evaluate the power required to drive the system and COP of two stage
compression ammonia refrigerating system with water intercooler. Use the
following data:
Condenser pressure=14 bar, Evaporator pressure=2 bar,
Intercooler pressure=5 bar, Load on the evaporator = 10 TR.
Temperature of de-superheated vapor and sub-cooled liquid refrigerant are
5 limited to 30°C. Use P-h chart 2 5
OR
Evaluate the total work of compression and the COP of two-stage vapour
compression refrigeration system with a flash chamber (flash gas removal)
and two expansion valves
Refrigerant used: Ammonia, Evaporator Temperature : -30°C
