Computer Hardware Engineer

Computer hardware engineers focus primarily on coding and software development.

This career doesn't significantly impact those around me because task completion depends on

individual efficiency. Engineers typically spend 2-3 hours coding per day, with the rest of the

time for personal tasks. However, if tasks aren't completed promptly, one may need to work

longer hours. An introverted personality is well-suited for this job as it requires minimal social

interaction and allows for independent work.

Skills necessary for software engineering include proficiency in mathematics, computer

science, and electronics engineering. Mathematics provides a foundational understanding of

coding and aids in making informed decisions about software. Computer science entails

learning which code to use and optimizing software efficiency. Knowledge of electronics

engineering helps engineers develop software integrated with hardware components. Tasks

include programming, software design, and error detection.

Further education beyond high school is essential for a career in computer hardware

engineering, typically requiring a Bachelor’s Degree or four years of college. Many colleges

across the United States offer Computer Hardware Engineering programs, such as San Diego

State University and UCSD. The starting salary for this career in California is $117,220.

Similar jobs to software engineering include aerospace engineering, chemical

engineering, and computer and information research scientists. These careers share similarities

in coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of computer science. However, they

differ in educational requirements and certifications.

A career as a computer hardware engineer aligns with my interests and strengths. I

enjoy working with computers and believe I can thrive in this field. Additionally, my introverted

nature and preference for independent work make me well-suited for this career. My strong

problem-solving skills and adaptability ensure that I can keep up with advancements in the

computer hardware engineering industry.
