ABSTRACT
 Solar cell is an electrical device, which converts the light energy into electrical
energy through the photovoltaic (PV) effect. Solar cells are classified into two
categories, which are wafer-based cell and thin film–based cell. The drawbacks
of wafer-based solar cell are low absorption coefficient, expensive, and
efficiency of the cell will decrease in high temperature and low light conditions.
To overcome these drawbacks Perovskite thin-film solar cell has been
introduced with high absorption coefficient, flexible, lightweight, and the
efficiency has been increased in high temperature and low light conditions. The
main objectives of this chapter are to briefly discuss the origin, characteristic
features, properties, applications, challenges, and future trends of perovskite
solar cell.

 INTRODUCTION
 PRINCIPLE OF SOLAR CELL.
 CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR CELL.

 TYPES OF SOLAR CELL.
INTRODUCTION
 Solar cell is the photovoltaic device that convert the light energy in to
electrical energy(which come from sun)in to electrical energy.
 This device work on the principle of photovoltaic effect.
 PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICE –The generation of voltage across the PN junction
in a semiconductor due to the absorption of light radiation is called
photovoltaic effect. The devices based on this effect is called photovoltaic
device.
PRINCIPLE OF SOLAR CELL
 The solar cells are based on the principles of
photovoltaic effect. The photovoltaic effect is the
photogeneration of charge carriers in a light absorbing
materials as a result of absorption of light radiation.
CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR CELL
 Solar cell consists of a n-type semiconductor layer and P type
semiconductor layer. The two layers are sandwiched and hence
there is formation of PN junction.
 The surface is coated with anti reflection coating to avoid the loss
of incident light energy due to reflection.
 A proper metal contacts are made on the n-type and p-type side
the semiconductor for Electrical connection .
WORKING OF SOLAR CELL

 When a solar panel exposed to

sunlight the light energies are
observed by a semiconductor
materials.
 Due to this observed energy the
electrons are liberated and produced
the external DC current.
 The DC current is converted into 240
volt at current using an inverter for
different applications.
TYPES OF SOLAR CELL
 Solar cells can be classified as three types
1. Monocrystalline Silicon cells
2. Polycrystalline Silicon cells
3. Amorphous Silicon cells
MONOCRYSTALLINE
 The monocrystalline Silicon cell is produced from pure Silicon
since the monocrystalline silicon is pure and defect free the
efficiency of cell will be higher.
POLYCRYSTALLINE
 In polycrystalline solar cell liquid silicon is used as raw material
and polycrystalline silicon was obtained followed by
solidification process the efficiency of this type of cell is less
than monocrystalline cell.
AMORPHOUS
 Amorphous Silicon was obtained by depositing Silicon
film on the substance like glass plate.
 The efficiency of a fossils is much lower than that of
the other two cell types
 As a result they are used mainly in low power
equipment surcharge watches and Pocket calculator for
Aaj packet elements.
