FINNED HEATSINK
AIM:
To design and implement a nned heat sink to maintain temperature using the Ansys-
Icepak so ware.

PROCEDURE:
(a) Start a New Project:
- Launch ANSYS Icepak and ini ate a new project by selec ng "File" > "New" > "Project" from
the menu bar. This ac on opens a blank workspace where you can begin your simula on.

(b) Build the Model:

-Build the geometry of the heat sink model using CAD tools within ANSYS Icepak or import an
exis ng geometry le.
-De ne materials and boundary condi ons for the model components, such as the heat sink,
electronics, and surrounding air.

(c) Generate Mesh and De ne Physical and Numerical Values:

-Generate a mesh for the model geometry to discre ze it into smaller elements.
-De ne physical proper es such as material proper es, heat sources, and boundary
condi ons.
-Set numerical parameters such as solver se ngs, convergence criteria, and me steps.
-Save the project to ensure all se ngs and data are preserved.

(d) Running Solu on:

- Ini ate the solu on process by clicking on "Solu on" > "Run" in the ANSYS Icepak interface.
The solver will begin itera ng to calculate the temperature distribu on and ow eld within the
heat sink assembly.
- Monitor the solu on progress through the solver log and convergence plots, ensuring that
the solu on converges to a stable solu on within acceptable residual levels.
- Upon comple on of the simula on, review the solu on output to verify convergence and
inspect any warnings or errors that may have occurred during the solving process.

(e) Postprocessing:
- Generate contour plots, vector plots, and streamline plots to visualize temperature
distribu ons, air ow pa erns, and heat transfer rates within the heat sink assembly.
- U lize built-in tools to extract quan ta ve data such as maximum temperatures, heat uxes,
and velocity magnitudes at speci c loca ons of interest.
- Save the post-processed data and plots for documenta on and repor ng purposes, and use
them to assess the thermal performance of the heat sink design.
