Research Booklet Teacher Notes

You can use the booklet in many different ways according to time restraints, ability and access to
resources, such as computers.
You will need access to the Internet and atlases in order to do the research although you may have
other Men’s World Cup magazines, Men’s World Cup resources or geography books that will also help.

Preparation

Before giving the task to your class:

• choose which pages (or all) you want to include;
• print the booklet on A4 or A5 sized pages;
• decide whether children will work individually, in pairs or groups;
• decide whether this will be an ongoing task, doing a small part each day, or set as homework after
the lesson.
Allocation Options

When allocating a country to each child, pair or group you could:

• let children make bids for the country they would like;
• allocate countries in a lucky dip way using the ‘Countries Raffle’ sheet included here;
• leave out England so no children are at an advantage or allocate England to less able children
or groups.
‘Dos’ for Internet Research

When the children are undertaking their Internet research, you can provide the children with the
following advice:
• do double check everything you see on the Internet;
• do get your facts from trusted websites;
• do be careful not to click on adverts or links that you don’t need or want, even if it looks really
interesting (click bait warning);
• do tell an adult if you see anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or you receive communication
from someone you don’t recognise.
Extension Tasks

After the children have completed their research, they could expand their work by:
• creating more of their own pages based on what else they would like to know about a country;
• making and giving a presentation on their country;
• creating a page for a ‘which country am I?’ quiz, similar to the Twinkl one.
