Fuel system, fault tracing

Symptom

Engine does not start or have starting problems,

generally noticed after longer stops.

Reason
Hour Meter
Check vehicle for DTC “MID 128 PID 94 FMI 7, Low fuel feed pressure”.
Note: The DTC is not active during cranking.

Action

Carry out fuel feed pressure with fault tracing test. See - Fuel feed pressure, fault tracing.
If no fault found and starting problem continues, disengage fuel lines from pick up on fuel tank. Plug the return line with
M16 plug included in tool 88800175.
If twin fuel tanks are used, make plugs with tool 88800175 :
- install M18 plug on inlet line,
- install M16 plug on return line at fuel pick up on secondary tank.
Pressurize inlet line from primary tank with 2 Bars. Use tool 9996662 and nipple included in tool 88800175 to pressurize it.
Look for leakage from fuel tank to the engine and on engine.
If the fuel system is contaminated with air, use soap water at all connection points to detect any leakage.
If the system is filled with fuel, look for fuel leakage at all connection points.
At leakage, replace faulty components.
If no leakage is found, check and retighten all fuel connections.
Note: When fault tracing is finished, loosen nipple of tool 88800175 from inlet line before turning off the air. Otherwise,
pressurized fuel might run backwards in the tool 9996662 and destroy it. Mind the fuel spray when loosing plugs.

Note: This method and tools do not work on vehicles with quick connectors on the fuel system. Use Guided Diagnostics
instead.
