Most SaaS-based backup vendors can protect Microsoft 365 and may provide some benefits such as:

Simplicity of deployment.

Simplicity of management.

Licenses including unlimited storage.

not enable you to adapt the protection level (RPO) to the value of each data set either, as they
backup all data with the same schedule (same RPO for all data. No gold/silver/bronze RPO policies).

Inflexible recovery. Struggle to minimize downtime after data loss, as you may not be able to
recover data exactly as needed by your business, due to limited recovery options. SaaS-based vendors
recover data to Microsoft 365 only, sometimes only to its original Microsoft 365 location (no recovery
to on-premises), and they rarely offer alternate restore options (i.e. email, export).

Unscalable recovery. Struggle to minimize downtime after disasters, due to the labor-intensive and
time-consuming restore operations. SaaS-based vendors may make it difficult to find specific items in
large backup sets, due to basic search filters and inability to search across users or sites. Moreover,
recovering large amounts of data with SaaS-based vendors results in manual work, as Administrators
must typically restore data one user at a time (cannot restore multiple users in a single restore job).

Limited vendor. Make data protection unnecessarily complex, as you must use several separate
backup tools to protect all your workloads because Microsoft 365 SaaS-based vendors typically protect
only SaaS applications. Moreover, these vendors typically offer few, if not rare, user resources or
services, such as how-to videos, detailed user guides, or advisory services, due to a very limited staff.
