got one slice each. What part of the whole pizza was
eaten?

Okay, what is your answer?
Therefore, 5 pats of pizza was eaten by Tony’s
friend or 5/8
5 is the numerator and then 8 is the
denominator.

Then the answer to that problem is 5/8 teacher.

Remember class that the numerator indicate how
many parts the whole.
The denominator indicates how many parts the
whole is divided into.
So, 5/8 is a rational number expressed by a fraction.
Fractions are symbols used for naming numbers.
They are parts taken from a whole.

Rate and Base and how to use it in some given
problem.

Okay class, in solving Percentage problem.

First we should know what Percentage, rate and base


is.
And how to use it, and how to identify what is the
Percentage, the Rate, and the Base.

What is Rate?
(pupils are silently listening to their lesson)
1. Rate
- Rate is the ratio of a number to 100. It is expressed
in percent.
It always has the % sign.

2. Base
- Base represents the whole.
It is the total number from which a percent is taken.
It is always formed after the word “of”.
The symbol for base is “B”

3. Percentage
- Percentage is a part of the number taken. It is
formed after the word “is”. The symbol for
Percentage is “P’’.

1.) 50 % of Php 500.00 is what number?


50 is the rate (pupils focusing on the examples)
Php 500.oo is the Base
What number is the Percentage.

2.) 42 is what percent of 56?

42 is the Percentage
Percent is the Rate
56 is the base.

3.) 448 is 80 % of what number?

448 is the Percentage


80 is the Rate
What number is the base

Okay, class! The example #1 is a percentage problem.

Base.
