Dear Melissa Peavey,

Hello, my name is Elliot Macmillan and I am a recent Peter A. Allard Law school
graduate interested in working at your law firm. I learnt about this opportunity online through
your job listing on Monster.ca. The listing appealed to me, as your firm looks like a professional
and welcoming place to start my career, and gives me important foundational work experience
in the field of law.

Your firm interests me, as I will get the opportunity to work with other people, and help
achieve a common goal. As a former provincial level basketball player, I have learnt to thrive in
a team environment, and have become a strong communicator. Through my studies in receiving
a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Simon Fraser University, and graduating from Peter A.
Allard Law school, I have become adept at understanding the court system and its proceedings.
During my time at Simon Fraser, I did a 4-5 month practicum at a criminal law firm. The
practicum brought me hands-on education and mentorship on court proceedings, and I got the
chance to personally assist and work with trained criminal lawyers with their day to day work. I
believe my past experiences through my post secondary education, as well as prior sports
activities have given me the skills and knowledge to allow me to quickly learn and add positively
to your firm.

I participated in Simon Fraser University’s debate club. My time spent within that club
has helped me think quicker on my feet, and allow me to quickly and effectively respond and act
in stressful situations. In one of my final semesters at SFU, I helped my team within the club win
the club's end of semester tournament. I believe this experience can effectively translate into
professional law work, and help during court proceedings.

I appreciate your time and I look forward to speaking with you in the near future for an
interview. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding my resume.

Sincerely,

Elliot Macmillan
