4.2 POST AND COLUMN REINFORCEMENT

- Refer to FAJARDO book, 3-7 POST AND COLUMN REINFORCEMENT, pg. 110

- If lapping is required, due to nonavailability of longer bars (ex. The total length of
bar to be used in column/beam is equal to 8.5m, and the available in the
commercial is 6m RSB, lapping is required) refer to FAJARDO book, 3-3 BAR
SPLICE, HOOK AND BEND, pg. 90. (for more information watch the video
provided)

4.3 LATERAL TIES FOR COLUMN

- Estimating the length of lateral ties for column, refer to TAGAYUN book, Table D-
6g, pg. D.36

- No. of ties to be used, is solved through direct counting.

- Solving for tie wires, refer to FAJARDO book, pg. 117.

SAMPLE D-2

Estimating steel bars for ties

using the details of the column
shown in the figure. Solve the
total lateral ties in the 6
columns.

SOLUTION:
a. LATERAL TIES

1. Through direct counting, there are 35 ties in one column.

Total No. of ties : 35 ties x 6 columns = 210pcs

2. Assuming that 6.00m bars will be purchased, the number of ties available shown
in TAGAYUN book, Table D-6g, pg. D.36 per FL is equal to 6pcs.

Total no. of 6m RSB: 210 pcs ÷ 6pcs = 35pcs of 10mmØ

b. TIE WIRES

1. Number of intersections

4bars x 35lateral ties = 140 intersections per column

2. Total intersections in 6 columns

140 x 6columns = 840ties
3. Use 40cm long tie wires
0.40m x 840ties = 336m
4. One kilogram of No. 16 tie wire is approximately 53 m. long
336m ÷ 53 = 6.34, say 7kg

SUMMARY:

35 pcs 10mmØ x 6.00m and 7kg of #16 G.I. wire

4.4 REINFORCEMENT OF CONCRETE HOLLOW BLOCKS

- Use UNIT BLOCK METHOD by FAJARDO, pg. 100
