A. SHOULD CHILDREN AGED 5-11 YEARS OLD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA
ACCOUNTS?

It is challenging to allow kids between the ages of 5 and 11 to have social media accounts because of
worries about their development, safety, and privacy. While some people agree that children should have
social media accounts because, it can help children to be friendly, and to have a conversation with
someone using social media platforms. In my stand, children aged 5-11 years old should not be allowed to
have social media accounts.

Giving young kids access to social media accounts exposes them to a different kinds of dangers,
such as inappropriate information, sharing important information, online predators, and cyberbullying.
According to research conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, children's mental health and
general wellbeing may suffer as a result of being exposed to social media. For example, a study that was
published in the Journal of Pediatrics discovered a link between higher levels of anxiety and sadness and
young children who have been victims of cyberbullying.

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 might not be mentally and emotionally developed enough for
handling how complex of social media in a responsible way. According to developmental psychologist
Jean Piaget, kids in this age range are in the concrete operational stage, which is defined by logical
thinking skills but a limited comprehension of abstract ideas. As a result, individuals could find it difficult
to understand the effects of their online behavior or to determine between trustworthy and false
information.

In conclusion, the research points to serious dangers to children's development, privacy, and safety
when they are allowed to have social media accounts between the ages of 5 and 11. Socialization and
education can be helped by social media, but there are other ways to accomplish these goals without
exposing kids to the possible risks of using the internet. Protecting children's wellbeing should be a top
priority of parents, young children should not have social media accounts at the age of 5-11 years old.
