Preschool Newsletter -- Half Day Session

Ms. Laureen’s Class

It’s hard to believe that we are now in our last month of school. Time sure has
passed quickly. As always, this month will be packed full of all sorts of fun things
to do...reinforcing readiness skills, work habits and small motor skills. We are so
proud of how far the children have progressed since coming through our doors for
the first time.
***Thanks to all of you for your continued support of our program. You have
helped to make a wonderful preschool experience for your children.
***Just a reminder......please send in your field trip slips for our farm field trip to
Wolcott Farm. I need them by Friday, May 3rd so that I can allow the farm to plan
for our arrival. Pray for good weather!

May 1 & 2
Signs of Spring are finally in the air! Today the children will be making their own
robins, pussywillows, forsythias and caterpillars to show some of the things we
begin to see as the weather gets warmer. We will be spending lots of time
practicing this month for our end of the year celebrations.

May 3 & 6 NO SCHOOL -- SPRING BREAK

May 7th
Wolcott Farm Fieldtrip
**meet at 12:00pm guided tour from 12:30-1:30pm
May 7 & 8
Welcome to FARM week! Children will be making a cute pink pig to bring home,
as we continue to practice our cutting skills. Our listening station also helps to bring
a farm story and its sounds to us. Our 4 year old class will have fun making a big
fat hen, just like the ones we saw at the farm. Both classes will have some fun
making barn yard murals.

May 9 & 10
Farm week continues as we share our farm experiences. Thursday’s class will be
making their own cow faces and painting some giant yellow chicks! Friday’s class
will be making a farm mural. We will be discussing the process of planting and our
job in helping things to grow. Children will be planting their own flowers in class
and we will be taking care of them throughout the month. Hopefully they will have
something to bring home to you at the end of May. We will also be making a special
planting picture complete with pretend dirt, seeds and plants!

May 13 & 14
Today we celebrate colors as we make a beautiful color burst flower to be used
for our graduation and moving up decorations. This multimedia project is always a
hit with the children!!!! We will also work on the last of our portfolio pages...giving
you a look into a collection of your child’s work throughout the year.

May 15 & 16
We will work on the completion of our Portfolios today. This collection of your
child’s work throughout the year will be given to you on our last day of school. It is
our hope that you will see the progress your child has made throughout the year
as well as enjoy the collection of work they have done for you and the photos we
were able to take to help you see their learning up close. Our portfolio covers and
Color Book covers will be completed today.
May 17
It’s Science Day for our 4 year old class. We will pretend to be scientists and do a
sink and float experiment. Observations of our science bottles is always lots of fun.
We’ll use magnets for painting as well as experimenting with. Their curious minds
will make lots of discoveries.

May 20 & 21
It’s BEACH DAY today! The last day of preschool, promises to be tons of fun! Please
have your child wear their bathing suit to school today. Children may wear tennis
shoes or sandals, but must keep something on their feet at all times. Please have
your child also bring their own beach towel. They love to use them to lie down on
and “get a tan” in the classroom! We also use them as surfboards. Please make
sure your child’s name is on their towel.
We’ll have fun pretending we are at the beach. Projects will include an ocean
animal and painting a beach ball for our Monday class and a starfish and rainbow
fish for Tuesday’s class.

***Please return all library books to school no later than May 16th. We will be
making our last trip to the library that week.

Thank you so much for sharing your children with us this year. It has been an
absolute pleasure to work with such a wonderful group.
Miss Laureen and Miss Sue

presentation.
Our ceremony will include a performance from the children to show you some of
the things we have learned. There will also be a distribution of diplomas and
medals at the end of our musical presentation. All families will receive a portfolio
of their child’s work throughout the year.

End of the Year Ceremony
9:00am-10:00am
***Please bring your child to the preschool room at 8:30am and proceed to the
activity center to wait for our presentation. We need this time to get the children
ready.
Our musical presentation and moving up ceremony will take place in the activity
center. We hope to show you some of the things we have learned this year.
Children will be receiving necklaces along with a special certificate showing that
they have completed 3 year old preschool.

It is with heavy hearts that Miss Sue and myself say good-bye to all of you this
year. We will both be retiring. Our love for St. Germaine school and its families
has been one of the most wonderful experiences in our lives. It has been a
blessing to have had all of your children this year as our last classes. Memories
of our time with them will have a very special place in our hearts. We wish all of
them much success in their coming years. May they always have the love of
learning that we experienced with them this year.

Happy May
Happy Graduation
Happy Summer

Love and hugs,

Miss Laureen and Miss Sue
