What is Atmosphere?
The Atmosphere is a significant part of what makes the earth livable. It blocks
some of the Sun’s dangerous rays from reaching earth. It traps heat, making Earth average
temperature. The oxygen within the atmosphere is essential for life. In an absence of
atmosphere , there would be no life on earth.
Layers of Atmosphere
Troposphere - this is the layer of the atmosphere closest to the earth’s surface,
extending up to about 0 to 10 miles above the Earth’s surface. It contains 75% of
the atmosphere mass.
Thermosphere - this layer extend from 86 to 372 miles above the Earth’s
surface. The temperature is hot and may be as high thousands of degrees as the
few molecules that are present in the thermosphere receive extraordinary large
amounts of energy from the sun.
Exosphere - this layer extend from 310 - 620 mile and above from the Earth’s
surface. The Exosphere is the uppermost region of the Earth's atmosphere and has
no clear upper boundary since it gradually fades into outer space. The exosphere
includes the uppermost region of Earth's atmosphere as it gradually fades into the
vacuum of space.
