To the Chanticleers Board,

I am humbled and privileged for the opportunities that Chanticleers Theatre has provided me. This past
year with Chanticleers has been a productive and rewarding year that has allowed me to expand as an
artist. As such, I continually seek more opportunities to grow within both the company and the theatre
scene. When our season was finalized, one of the shows, “Yellowface” by David Henry Hwang, caught my
attention. With my work experience and passion for the show itself, I would like to formally ask to be the
director for the show.

The David Henry Hwang play was a big part of my early career as it was one of the plays that I read in
College. I was fascinated by the language and themes, primarily the questions that arise about race and
the interaction/involvement of politics and media. What I especially like most about the play is the
commentary by the author himself on the nature of racial identity. It’s a complex piece that explores many
different perspectives deriving from the discourse. Being an Asian American, I can relate heavily and
culturally connect with the show’s content.

In terms of directing the show, my background and dedication to fostering diverse and inclusive narratives
make me well suited to tackle this material. I have a clear vision for how to bring “Yellowface” to life on
the stage, emphasizing its relevance in today’s society and making it a memorable and thought-provoking
experience for the audience. In regards to my work experience,, I have honed my skills in guiding actors,
shaping narratives, and creating a cohesive and impactful production. Lastly, I am dedicated to fostering
an inclusive and collaborative environment, ensuring that actors and crew members from all backgrounds
have an equal opportunity to excel in their roles. Directing “Yellowface” would be a unique opportunity to
contribute to important discussions about representation, identity, and the theater’s role in addressing
societal issues.
