Third Quarter Module 3

Week 3
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the Development
and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping the learners meet the
standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also
need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own
learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the
tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided
and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the
contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
The following are some reminders in using this module:
1. Use the module with care. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let’s Try before moving on to the other activities included in the
module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to
consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and gain deep
understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
Let’s Learn

This module will guide the learners to identify the angles formed when parallel lines are
cut by a transversal, this will also help the learners to develop their ability to determine
the measurement of each angle using different postulates.
After going through this module, the learners are expected to derive relationships
among angles formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal using measurement and by
inductive reasoning.

using the figure below.(An example is provided to help you determine the answer)

5. Exterior Angles on the same side of the transversal

Solution: ∠F and ∠L ________________________

Let’s Explain

ANGLES FORMED WHEN TWO PARALLEL LINES ARE CUT BY A TRANSVERSAL

A transversal is a line that intersects two or more lines.

Interior Angles are the four angles formed between the lines x and y. In the figure,
these are ∠C, ∠D, ∠E and ∠F.

Exterior Angles are the four angles formed that lie outside the lines x and y. These are
∠A, ∠B, ∠G and ∠H.

Alternate Interior Angles are two interior angles that lie on opposite sides of a
transversal. The angle pairs are ∠C and ∠F; ∠D and ∠E.

Alternate Exterior Angles are two exterior angles that lie on opposite sides of the
transversal. The angle pairs are ∠A and ∠H; ∠B and ∠G

Corresponding Angles are two angles, one interior and the other exterior, on the same
side of the transversal. The pairs of corresponding angles are ∠A and ∠E, ∠C and ∠G,
∠B and ∠F, ∠D and ∠H.

RELATIONSHIPS AMONG ANGLES FORMED WHEN TWO PARALLEL LINES

ARE CUT BY A TRANSVERSAL
Remember:
When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal as shown, the boxed angles are
congruent and the unboxed angles are also congruent.

6
Therefore:

Corresponding Angles are congruent.

∠A ≅ ∠E, ∠C ≅ ∠G, ∠B ≅ ∠F, ∠D ≅ ∠H

Alternate Interior Angles are congruent.

∠C ≅ ∠F, ∠D ≅ ∠E

Alternate Exterior Angles are congruent.

∠A ≅ ∠H, ∠B ≅ ∠G

Interior Angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary.

∠C + ∠E = 180°, ∠D + ∠F = 180°

Exterior Angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary.

∠A + ∠G = 180°, ∠B + ∠H = 180°

Let’s Dig In

Activity 3.
Directions. Find the measure of the missing angles and tell the relationship that exists
among the given angles.

Let’s Remember

ANGLES FORMED WHEN TWO PARALLEL LINES ARE CUT BY A TRANSVERSAL

Interior Angles are the four angles formed between the parallel line.
Exterior Angles are the four angles formed that lie outside the parallel lines.
Alternate Interior Angles are two interior angles that lie on opposite sides of a
transversal.
Alternate Exterior Angles are two exterior angles that lie on opposite sides of the
transversal.
Corresponding Angles are two angles, one interior and the other exterior, on the same
