CHAPTER 1
This chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem,
hypothesis,
significance, scope and delimitation, and definition of terms of the current study:
"Investigating the Time Management Strategies of High School Student Athletes of Balatong
Integrated School".
Time management has been important in, if not all, most of the student athletes.
Balancing academics, sports training, and even social life must be hard. Unfortunately, some
students might be overwhelmed by this situation and need effective and good time
management as it helps students make day-to-day tasks simpler and easier to finish. Students
who do not know how to manage their time tend to end up with challenging schedules, be
overwhelmed with their duties, struggle to finish their tasks, and fall behind in everything in
Student athletes of Balatong Integrated School (BIS) often face unique challenges in
managing their time due to the dual commitment of excelling in their studies and sports.
Effective time management is crucial for their success, both on the field and in the classroom.
Student athletes are expected to balance their rigorous training schedules, competitions, and
academic responsibilities. Failing to manage their time efficiently can lead to negative
To gain insight into the time management strategies of the high school student
athletes at BIS, this study will employ surveys, interviews, and data analysis. The goal is to
identify common strategies and potential areas for improvement. The results of this research
can inform
educators, coaches, and administrators on how to better support and guide student athletes in
managing their time effectively to achieve success both academically and athletically.
This study aimed to Investigate the time management strategies of the student athletes
of Balatong Integrated School. Specifically, the study aims to answer the following questions:
2. How do the senior high school student athletes of Balatong Integrated School manage
their time despite being an athlete and at the same time a student?
3. What are the study habits of the senior high school student athletes of Balatong
Integrated School?

HYPOTHESIS
High school student athletes at Balatong Integrated School are expected to employ
more effective time management strategies compared to non-athletes, given the demands of
The goal of this study is to identify the different time management habits of student
athletes of Balatong Integrated School and as to how they manage their time despite their
busy schedules. The high school student athletes of Balatong Integrated School will be
randomly selected as a sample for the survey during the 2nd Quarter of the 1st semester of
the school year 2023-2024 at Balatong Integrated School. The participation of selected
student athletes in a survey done through a one-on-one interview is critical to the success of
this study.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
To help you understand the study better, the following terms are defined based on
Academic. Academic is used to describe things that relate to the work done in
schools,
colleges, and universities, especially work which involves studying and reasoning rather than
Sport. Refers to an activity involving physical activity and skill with elements of
competition where rules and patterns of behavior governing the activity exist formally
through
organizations.
Time management. It is the process of organizing and planning how to divide your

RELATED LITERATURE
According to Hours (2023) time management strategy is the overall plan for effective
time management. It can encompass a specific time management technique and a set of skills
to perform it efficiently. One can decide on a time management technique because you have
the skills needed to successfully implement that technique, or choose a technique based on
the
Some of the important skills students need to manage time effectively include are
goal-setting as it is almost impossible to use time well if you don’t know what to do with it,
prioritization which can be done by assessing what needs to be achieved within a given
important to have a plan for getting them, and managing stress as nobody performs at their
peak under excessive stress. Students need healthy ways to manage the pressures of study
while maintaining productivity. Getting enough sleep and exercising are all great ways to
keep stress at bay, and actually make learning more efficient (Auld, 2023).
According to Athlete (2023, December 5), effective time management extends far
beyond schedules and to-do lists; it’s a mindset that can transform your entire experience as a
student athlete. Mastering time management can redefine your journey in the mental aspect
by stress reduction because when you prioritize tasks and allocate dedicated study time, you
create a shield against anxiety. Knowing you have a plan in place provides a sense of calm
and control
in the midst of chaos. Time management can also affect confidence boost as you see your
grades improve and your athletic performance peak, your self-confidence will soar. You’ll
tackle challenges with newfound belief in your abilities, and this confidence will reflect not
only in your sports performance but in all aspects of your life. It also enhanced focus as one
of the remarkable byproducts of time management is improved focus. This heightened focus
not only improves your performance but also enriches your overall experience. Improved
wellbeing can also be a great outcome of effective time management because balancing the
rigors of academic and athletic life can be physically and mentally demanding, yet, with
effective time management, you can prioritize self-care, ensuring you get adequate sleep,
maintain a healthy diet, and find time for relaxation. A healthier body and mind contribute
significantly to your overall well-being. And it can also affect one’s personal growth as time
management nurtures essential life skills, including discipline, perseverance, and the art of
prioritization. These qualities extend far beyond your athletic career and will serve you well
RELATED STUDIES
In recent years, academic performance and sports affiliations of students have gained
popularity over correlational studies. Notions like student-athletes earning "a sound mind and
a sound body" through sports participation claimed by sports enthusiasts have been rivaled by
some people believing that sports participation hindered student’s ability to perform well in
academics because of their training and practice commitments rather than studying by
denied empirically and practically. Various models and theories designed by many
researchers gained popularity in the recent past promising systematic and efficient
According to the study made by Quimbo, N. S. (2023), the correlation between the
three
variables athletic participation, time management, and academic performance are of high
positive correlation which means that when these student-athletes manage their time wisely,
they can have higher academic success. It can also be gleaned that while one of these
increases, he rests also increase, e.g. when athletic participation intensifies, the more they
should manage their time wisely to balance academic and extra-curricular success rates.
CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
This chapter gives an outline of research methods that were followed in the study. The
researcher describes the research design that was selected to conduct this study and the
reasons for this choice. It provides information as to who the participants are and how and
where they will be sampled. The instrument that will be used for data gathering is also
described and the procedures that will be followed in carrying out this study are included.
The researcher also discusses the methods that will be used to analyze the data that will be
gathered.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers will use the qualitative interview methodology as the study is trying
to determine the different time management techniques of the high school student athletes of
Balatong Integrated School. The study got its baseline information through conducting a one-
on-one interview to the randomly selected student athletes. The participants' responses will
The study was conducted at Balatong Integrated School, a public secondary high
school located at Barangay 40 Balatong, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The school offers basic
education programs such as Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High
School with a General Academic Strand (GAS), Accountancy, Business, and Management
(ABM) Strand, and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS) strand. In that, the
researchers used randomly selected high school student athletes to conduct their study.
RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS
The participants of the study will be consisted of randomly selected high school
student athletes of Balatong Integrated School. The researchers believed that these selected
participants would be enough in providing necessary and sufficient information to answer the
After randomly selecting the respondents to be interviewed, the researchers will then
ask the participants for their consent to be informed if the participants have given permission
to be interviewed. After the participants have given their permission, the researchers will give
a brief description of the study and will tell that the participants identity will remain
confidential before and after the completion of the study. The researcher will then inform the
participant when the interview will start. All the information given by the participant will be
recorded on a cellphone and will be written and listed in an intermediate paper. The
researchers can also ask follow up questions since the study uses a semi-structured interview.
This gives opportunity to researcher to gather more information and to ask clarifications if
needed. When all the participants have been interviewed the information will be arranged
important in data refinement and will be tabulated. The refined data will then analyzed using
thematic analysis. Then the researchers will generate a theme which will represent the answer
