ITEM WISE EXPLANATORY NOTE FOR SCHEDULE OF WORK

Name of Work:Earth-pit's Reconditioning, Replacement/Repair of Damaged Pits &
providing new earth-pits under WSP, AXP and DG area of RWF,
Yelahanka, Bengaluru-560064.
Explanatory Note for item@ Sl.no -1
Supply/Erection of New Earth Pits against fully damaged earth pits on same
location:

Supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Earthing station of Galvanised iron pipe
electrode of size: with 50 mm dia (ID), "B" class, 3.0 mtr long, as per IS-3043 dimensions.
Consolidating the earth pit with equal proportion of Salt-100 Kg, wood charcoal-100 Kg and
equal proportion of water. After consolidating the Earth pit, it should be allowed to settle for
one week, again water should be poured to the pit, any loose soil gone down has to be filled,
and the pit shall be filled tightly and settled properly without any loose soil.

Providing Concrete chamber of size: Inner dimensions: 400 mm (L) x 400 mm (W) x 350 mm
(H). outer dimensions: 650 mm (L) x 650 mm (W) x 350 mm (H), using cement,sand and
concrete mixture of ratio 1:2:4, covered with Cast iron Plate of size: 600 mm x 600 mm x 5
mm and other connected items like funnel, GI bolt, Nut & Washer. Laying, fixing, welding &
connecting of GI flat from panel/ equipment to Earth Electrode point through the existing
tunnel/trench and from inside soft soil (below 1 foot) with suitable GI Bolt, Nut & Washers.
Testing and measuring the Earth Resistance value (< 2 ohm). To provide anti corrosion
quality, CI-lid cover has to be painted inside and outside with red oxide. When it will fully dry
Lid cover top side has to be painted with yellow paint mentioning; Earth Pit No, Earth
Resistance value, testing completed date, next due date for testing. The out side area of
earth pit chamber has to be painted with snowcem or exterior cement paint.

Note:1) Required length of GI strip(1050 meter ie approx. 15 meter for one pit), salt,
charcoal, as well as all items except water will be supplied by contractor. However additional
150 meters of GI strip if needed during execution of work, to be supplied by Contractor
without any extra charges.

Note: 2) During the laying of GI strip, if it is required to break the concrete, the contractor
has to break the concrete at the depth of 1 foot and lay the GI strip and close the trench as
original using concrete material. While laying the G.I strip if rail track crossing is required
then contractor has to lay the strip beneath the track 1 foot below and close it as original.

Explanatory Note for item @ Sl.no-2

Reconditioning of Earth pit and Checking Earth Resistance value:
Removing soil in earth pit for a depth of 1 mtr and reconditioning with saline water (50 Kg
Salt in 200 ltr water solution), consolidating the Earth pit properly. After reconditioning,
Measuring and Recording the values of Earth pit Resistance and shall be within accepted
range (< 2 Ohms). Retreatment to be made for such earth pits for which the required
resistance value (less than or equal to 2 ohm) could not be able to get even after
reconditioning or replacement of damaged/defective/rusted/missing parts. After getting the
required earth resistance value, Outside area of earth pit chamber has to be painted with
snowcem or exterior cement paint. When it will fully dry Lid cover top side has to be painted
with yellow paint mentioning; Earth Pit No, Earth Resistance value, testing completed date,
next due date for testing.
Note: 50 kg salt in one bag for each earth pit has to be supplied by the contractor.
Explanatory Note for item @ Sl.No.-3(a)
Repairing of earth pit chamber and raising its height up to 15 cm. from ground level by using
cement, sand and coarse aggregate mixture in ratio 1:2:4. If chamber is damaged, same to
be reconstructed and made ready by using cement,sand and coarse aggregate mixture in
1:2:4 ratio. The out side area of earth pit chamber has to be painted with snowcem or

Explanatory Note for item @ Sl. no.-3(b)
Replacing of missing/damaged lid cover by new suitable size cast iron and having two number
fixed handles. This CI lid is used for covering the earth pit chamber. To provide anti corrosion
quality, CI-lid cover has to be painted inside and outside with red oxide. When it will fully dry
Lid cover top side has to be painted with yellow paint mentioning; Earth Pit No, Earth
Resistance value, testing completed date, next due date for testing.

Note: Different sizes of lid covers are used to close the earth pits. Hence, tenderers
shall measure the each earth pit chamber size before providing the lid cover.

Explanatory Note for item @ Sl. no. -3(c)

Replacement of damaged/defective/rusted/missing GI Funnel set consisting of funnel,
connector plate, GI reducer, nipple, bolt & nut.

Explanatory Note for item @ Sl No.-3(d)

Replacement of damaged/missing earth connection by supply and erection of suitable GI bolt
and Nut with washer and connecting the Earth GI strip to the Earth electrode properly.
Replacing GI strip length if rusted/damaged. Connecting GI strip to earth electrode and
tightening of bolt and nut and making proper welding wherever required. The approx. total
required length of GI strip is 450 metres for 30 nos. i.e. Each pit approx. 15 metres. Length.
G.I. strip laying/procedures shall be as similar as mentioned earlier for New Pits.
Note: Contractor has to clear bushes/vegetations/debris/mud surrounding (at lest
1 meter surrounding area) earth pits area before commencement of work.
Contractor's Scope:
1. Contractor can visit the sites at RWF before quoting the offer,if required on working
days of RWF.

2. Work permit shall be obtained before commencement of work and all the work should
be carried out as per the guide lines RWF official

3. Necessary welding set, tools and tackles, Valid calibrated earth tester required fo
the work to be brought by the contractor.

4. Work has to be carried out during normal working days, Sundays and Holidays as
per the Instructions of Engineer In-charge.

5. Required salt for New Earth Station & for Reconditioning of Earth pits, cement,
paint material concrete etc. has to be brought by the contractor.

6. Required Transportation has to be arranged by the contractor.

7. Cast iron lids, GI strip for connecting to Earth Electrode, funnels, earth electrodes,
nut bolts will be supplied by contractor.

RWF Scope:
1.Power supply & required water for the above work will be supplied by RWF at free
of cost. However contractor has to collect & transport the water to the work place
from the nearest source inside RWF premises.
