ORM Midterm Summary
ORM Midterm Summary
Scrambled merchandise: offer merchandise not typically associated with their brand
OBJECTIVE:
● Retailer characteristics
● Categorize various type of food retailers
● Categorize various type of merchandise retailers
● Difference between service and merchandise retailers
● Types of Ownerships
Retailer characteristics
2. Variety
and
+ Variety: number of merchandise categories a retailer offers. Chiều rộng, tức có bao
nhiêu categories
+ Assortment: the number of different items offered in a merchandise category.
Each different item of merchandise is
call Stock-keeping unit (SKU)
Variety and assortment can also be applied to a specific merchandise category rather than
an entire store.
3. Service offered
4. Price and cost of offering breadth and depth
- Xu hướng của siêu thị: Majority of food merchandise.
- Merchandise:
Green
offering more fair trade, natural, organic, and consumers who are health and environmentally
locally sourced foods conscious
Private-Label
leveraging their quality reputation To reduce showrooming
Vd: Coop-select, no brand của Emart Having more choices and finding the same
ingredients and quality as in national brands at a
lower price or higher quality at a similar price to
the national brands.
2. Supercenter
- Large stores, offering broad assortments of grocery and general merchandise products under one
roof, supercenters provide a one-stop shopping experience.
- Tập trung vào General merchandise (non-food), thực phẩm khô has higher margins, enabling
the supercenters to price food items more aggressively.
4. Warehouse clubs
- Offer a limited and irregular assortment of food and general merchandise with little service at low
prices for ultimate consumers and small businesses.
5. Convenience stores
- provide a limited variety and assortment of merchandise at a convenient location with speedy
checkout.
3. Category Specialists
- Deep assortment but narrow variety → Category killer (Họ có lợi thế tuyệt đối ở môt category.
4. Specialty stores
- Offering a deep assortment but narrow variety, and sales associate expertise.
5. Drugstores
Types of ownerships
2. Corporate retail chains
OBJECTIVE:
● Channels
● Relative strengths of the major retail channels
● Opportunities associated with omnichannel strategy
● Challenges facing multichannel and omnichannel retailers.
Channels
Channel involves the opportunity to complete a transaction while a medium is used to communicate
information to consumers.
- Retail channel: the way a retailer sells and delivers merchandise and service to its customer.
- Single-channel retailing: mua bán giao hàng thông qua một kênh duy nhất.
- Multichannel retailing: mua bán giao hàng thông qua nhiều kênh, channel operate without
integrating operations between them.
- Cross-channel retailing: customers actually use multiple channels to make purchases, such as

and-mortar store to redeem the coupon and buy the product
- Omnichannel retailing: coordinated multichannel retail offering that provides a seamless and
synchronized customer experience, using all of the retailer’s shopping channels.
In-store retailing Touch and smell products Khách hàng có thể tự kiểm tra và
thử sản phẩm
Cash payment
customers via the Internet hàng trực tiếp
