My Favorite Short Story

"The Doll House" (written by Katherine Mansfield)

As there are many short stories in my course's syllabus but above mentioned short story I like the most
due to a lot of reasons. The reasons am going to explain in following :

As we know that literature always remains a prime source of writers through which they express their
point of view regarding different issues but mostly about societal issues.

In some simple words, we can also say that literature is used as an instrument to highlight different
problems of our society. In the above mentioned story , prevailing discrimination in society is discussed
with the help of two family’s children.

One is Burnell family(representing the rich class of society) and the other one is Kelvey
family(representing the lower class of society). The discriminative attitude of Burnell family's children
towards the Kelvey family's children highlighting the same discriminative behavior which is prevailing in
our society from a long time.

Is this story the transfer of this mind set from generations to generations is also portray skillfully. In
our practical life, we also observe this phenomenon practically. The gist of story is that it is highlighting
the discriminative mind set of our society. This mind set must have to change. Proper educational
system in this sense can be good step.

The teachings of religion can also not be neglected in this regard. We should treat every one without
any discrimination. The society where everyone will be equal to another is not something that is
impossible to achieve , we should contribute on individual level as well as on collective level to make is
happens in it's true spirit.

All these above mentioned characteristics make this story my favorite
