Glaucoma

Visual  caused by increase IOP

Snellen’s test (Snellen chart)
 Visual acuity – effectiveness of vision
 Normal vision: 20/20
o Pt standing at 20 feet away from
chart can see what a normal pt can
see from 20 feet away from chart
o 1st number: what normal pt sees,
2nd number: what u see
o E.g. 20/20, 20/100, etc.  The problem in glaucoma is aqueous
 20/200 indicates legal blindness humor (fluid in eyes w/c gives shape of
eye)
o Released by ciliary body to
trabecular meshwork
 Normal IOP: 10-21 mmHg
 > 21 mmHg = glaucoma
 Tunnel-like vision/gun barrel vision,
peripheral vision loss
 Open angle and closed angle
o Open angle – there is problem in
trabecular meshwork
 Aqueous humor ay maiipon
sa anterior chamber =
increased IOP
 Slow progression
 No pain

Red reflex – the red in eye is the retina o Closed angle – there is problem in

- Absence of red reflex indicates cataract iris

- Cataract blocks light to enter the eyes  Naiipit yung iris > hindi
makalabas aqueous humor
 Mapepress pababa ang
lens, pushing down vitreous
humor > retina and optic
nerve pushed down
 S&SX: excruciating PAIN =
emergency
