The Nusantara Keris Museum was built in 2013, and officially opened
to the public on August 9 2017. The location of the Nusantara Keris
Museum is in the former Mangunjaya Mental Hospital building, and is
planned to merge with the Sriwedari Area. The exact location is at Jalan
Bhayangkara No.2, Sriwedari , Kec. Laweyan, Surakarta City, Central Java.
The Archipelago Keris Museum has a collection of around 409 kerises of
various types and sizes. The collections of kerises also vary in terms of age.
Some are hundreds of years old, but there are also new keris.
Apart from the keris, there are also 38 spears and other historical
heirlooms in this museum. The Archipelago Keris Museum has four floors.
The first floor is called wedaring discourse. Visitors are asked to fill out the
guest list and will receive an information board about the distribution of
weapons in the world.
Tangguh is the style of making a keris and an estimate of the time and
place of manufacture. Dhapur which means various types or shapes of keris.
Pamor is a certain image on the surface of the keris which includes circles,
lines, motifs, spots, curves and points. All complete information is in the
Solo Keris Museum.
There are types of keris that are shaped like knives, such as kadga and
bethok, and some are straight-shaped, called luk because they have curves.
Fourth Floor you will be taken to the time of the Borobodur Temple
and Sukuh Temple to see the keris making process. At the Solo Keris
Museum you will get the sensation of witnessing the actual making of a
keris. You can also see a portrait of a collection of keris-making offerings
that used to be made by expert keris makers/masters.
Fifth Floor, this floor is the top floor of the Solo Keris Museum as
well as a storage area for keris artifacts. Also on display is a keris gift from
the Indonesian Kerisan Society for Indonesia's seventh president, Joko
Widodo. As a symbol of Pancasila, the keris has five layers and the color red
on the sheath is a symbol of nobility.
