Mean Median Mode Sample Parameter

● It is the middle number in a sorted,

ascending or descending, list of numbers and Median
can be more descriptive of that data set than
the average.
● A numerical characteristics of a Parameter
Population
● It's the sum of the given data divided by Mean
the number of the given data.
● It’s the number that occurred the most Mode
often in your data set.

● A numerical characteristics of a Sample Statistic

Objectives:

-Identify sampling distributions of statistics (sample

mean);
-Compute the mean, standard error and variance of the
sampling distribution of the sample mean; and
-Respond to every question and participate in the given
activity.
Sampling Distribution of a statistic is the
distribution taken by the statistic in all
possible samples of the same size from the
same population.

Sample Statistics is the mean, variance,

and standard deviation.
Example 1: A sample with size n=3 is drawn
from the set 5,6,8,12,8,20. Construct the
sampling distribution of the medians.
5,6,8,12,20

Use combinations to find how

many sample we should have.
nCr = 5C3 =10

There are 10 possible samples of

size that can be drawn from the
given data.
The Sampling distribution of the median is

THE SAMPLING DISTRIBUTION OF THE SAMPLE MEANS

Sample means exhibiting the following properties:

1. The mean of the sample mean is the same as the population
mean.

2. The standard error of the sample mean is equal to the

population standard deviation divided by the square root of
the sample size.
Example 2: Given in Example 1, A sample with
size n=3 is drawn from the set 5,6,8,12,8,20,
construct the sampling distribution of the
means. Find the mean and standard error of
the sample mean.
a. Sample Mean
b. Mean of the Sample Mean
c. Standard Error
