DRAWING OF EXISTING PIER ( AS PROVIDED BY CLIENT)

As per the site requirement, since the proposed track of 25T loading lies over the existing pile cap of common pier 1 at a
distance of 2.45m(SQ) from the existing pier shaft thus in this report the foundation of common pier 1 has been checked
for 25T loading. It has been found that existing foundation is not adequate with existing 8 nos. of piles for proposed track
of 25T loading, hence 4 number of new piles has been proposed.

This design report pertains design for foundation of common pier 1 only.

ANALYSIS OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

[ Please Refer Annex - C of IS:2911 Part I / Sec -2 : 2010 ]
Pile Cap Bottom Level = 101.425 m
Diameter of Pile D = 1.000 m
2
Charecteristic Compressive Strength of Pile Material fck = 35 N / mm

Modulus of Elasticity of Pile Material, E = 32000.00 N / mm2

Moment of Inertia of Pile Section, I = ( π / 64 ) x 1^4 = 0.0491 m4

= 0.04909 x 1.0E+012 = 0.491 E+11 mm4
3 3
Modulus of Subgrade Reaction for Granular Soils = 1.400 x 10 kN/m
[Please Refer Table -3, A nnex - C of IS:2911 Part I /Sec - 2 : 2010]

A s per Clause C - 2.3.1, A nnex - C of IS:2911 Part I / Sec - 2 : 2010

Stiffness Factor, T = = ( 32000 x 0.0491 / 1.4 )^0.20
5 = 4.074 m

Cantilever Length of Pile above Bed/Scour Level, e =

= 0.000 m
e/T = 0 / 4.074 = 0.000
From Fig. : 4 of Annex - C for Fixed Head Piles in Sands and Normally Loaded Clays
Zf / T = 2.20
Depth to Point of Fixity Zf = 2.2 x 4.074 = 8.960 m
RL at Depth of Fixity = 101.425 - 8.96 = 92.465 m
Minimum Embedded Length for Long (Elastic) Pile (L e = 4 T)
Le = 4.0 x 4.074 = 16.295 m

Refering to Clause: C- 4.3 of Annex - C of IS:2911 (Part I/Sec-2), Fixed End moment of the Pile for Equivalent Cantilever
MF = H x ( e + Zf ) / 2 For Fixed Head Pile
= 4.480 H
Refering to Fig no - 5B of A nnex - C of IS:2911 Part I/Sec-2:2010, Reduction Factor for Fixed Head Pile
m = 0.82 as Piles are Flexible Piles
Actual Maximum Moment in Pile Mmax = m x MF
= 0.82 x 4.48 x H
= 3.674 H
Where H = Maximum Horizontal Load Per Pile.

PILE DESIGN

DESIGN OF RCC PILE

The Pile is designed as per the "Charts for the Design of Circular columns" to SP:16.
(A) Material Property
2
Grade of Concrete fck = 35 N / mm
2
Grade of Reinforcement fy = 500 N / mm
2
Fcd = 15.63 N / mm
Fyd = 435 N / mm2
(B)Section Property
Diameter of Section (D) = 1000 mm
Clear cover = 75 mm
Diameter of Outer Links = 16 mm
Diameter of main vertical R/F outer layer = 25 mm
Effective Cover (d') = 75 + 16 + 25 / 2.0 = 103.5 mm
d'/D = 103.5 / 1000 = 0.104
Length of pile = 20 m
(C) Critical Load Case
Axial Load Pu = -44.290 T
Moment Mu = 3.674 x 25.186 = 92.524 T - m
Pu /fck D2 = ( 0 x 10^4 ) / (35 x 1000^2 ) = -
Mu / fck D3 = ( 92.524 x 10^7 ) / (35 x 1000^3 ) = 0.026

From Chart- 60 of SP: 16 - 1980, which corresponds to 500 grade of Reinforcement

p/fck = 0.021
p = 0.74 %
Reinforcement for Tension Tie = Pu / (0.87 fy)
44.29 x 10000 / (0.87 x 500 ) = 1018.153 mm2
Therefore; Asc = 4 x ( 1000^2 ) x ( 0.735 /100 ) + 1018.153 = 6790.83 mm2

(D) Reinforcement Computation

[Refer Cl: 6.11.1 of IS: 2911 Part 1 Sec 2 ]
Minimum % of Reinforcement in a Circular Section = 0.4 %

Step1 : Area of Reinforcement
Area of reinforcement distributed uniformly about periphery = 88.3572934 cm2

Step 2: Neutral Axis

Diamter of pile D = 100 cm
Assume Neutral axis located at distance from periphery X = 54.67 cm
Step 3: Following coefficients (A,B,C are taken from figure)
X/d = 0.547

A= 0.35 B= 0.45 C= 0.15

Distance of CG of segment from center of circle Ar = 17.5 cm

Second moment of area of segment about its own centroid
C r4 = 937500 cm4
Step 4: Effective Area A+(m - 1)*As = 4963.88 cm2

Step-5 : Distance of CGeff from physical centroid of whole section

( By taking moment of effective area about physical centroid)
e' (A.Cg/Aeff) = 15.86 cm
e (M/P) = 30.00 cm
e - e' = 14.14 cm
Revised Moment = 21.02 T-m
Step-6 : I effective
Ieff = I + A (Cg - e') ^2 + ( m -1) As (((R - cov )^2 )/ 2 + e'^2) = 1440687 cm4

Step-7
Distance of actual neutral axis below Cgeff is Ieff./( Aeff.( e - e' )= 20.53 cm
Distance of assumed neutral axis below Cgeff is e' -( R - X)= 20.53 cm

2
Stress at N.A. (P/A)-(P x (e -e') x (e' - N.A.))/Ieff = 0.00 Kg/cm

Step-8 Permissible Stresses

Max Comp.Stress in Concrete = P/ Aeff. + P (e - e') ( D /2 -e') / Ieff = 79.77 Kg/cm2
