CALCULUS – III
FINAL EXAMINATION CARD № 0

1. Consider the following function of two variables:

(√(𝑥 2 −4)(𝑦 2 −9))

𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦) = 𝑒

a. Is 𝐷(𝑓) open or closed\bounded or unbounded?

b. What is the level curve of this function?
c. Demonstrate whether this function is continuous or not by limit notation.

2. Integrability of several variables’ functions. Limit notation of the Riemann Sum. The relation
between Riemann Sum norm and continuity.

3. Evaluation of the absolute extrema on the closed bounded domain (algorithm and necessary
conditions). Geometric, algebraic, and physical interpretation of the method of Lagrange
multipliers.

4. Give the definition and demonstrate computation of the flux of the 2D vector field (Example is
advisory for this problem).

5. Demonstrate approach for locating the centroid of the area on the surface of the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 +
𝑧 2 = 4𝑎2 , inside the cylinder 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 2𝑎𝑥, and in the first octant.

6. Use gradient notation and find the derivative of the function 𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) at given point
𝑃0 (𝑥0 , 𝑦0 , 𝑧0 ) in the direction of vector 𝑢 ⃗:
⃗ = 𝑢1 𝑖 + 𝑢2 𝑗 + 𝑢3 𝑘

𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = cos(𝑥𝑦) + 𝑒 𝑦𝑧 + ln(𝑧𝑥) , 𝑃0 (1, 0, 1/2 ), 𝑢 ⃗

⃗ = 𝑖 + 2𝑗⃗ + 2𝑘

7. Write down the Taylor decomposition and find the cubic approximation of the following
function near the origin, then evaluate approximation error, provided that
|𝑥| ≤ 0.1 𝑎𝑛𝑑 |𝑦| ≤ 0.1:
1
𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦) =
1 − 𝑥 − 𝑦 + 𝑥𝑦

8. Find local extrema of the following function:

1
𝑓(𝑥, 𝑦) =
𝑥2 + 𝑦2 − 1

9. Evaluate triple iterated integral in Rectangular Coordinates (Apply Fubini’s Theorem if

necessary):
3
𝜋/6 1
∫ ∫ ∫ 𝑦𝑠𝑖𝑛(𝑧)𝑑𝑥𝑑𝑦𝑑𝑧
0 0

10. Find the moment of Inertia about x-axis and the center of masses of a thin sheet with
sin2 𝑥
constant density 𝛿 = 1 bounded by the curve 𝑦 = and the interval 𝜋 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 2𝜋 of the
𝑥2
x-axis.

11. Find volume of the solid between the sphere 𝜌 = 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜑 and the hemisphere 𝜌 = 2,
𝑧 ≥ 0.

12. Describe the algorithm of finding local maximum and minimum values of 𝑓 subject to
constraint using the method of Lagrange Multipliers.

13. Determine for each singularity if it is a pole (with order), removable or essential singularity:

𝑓(𝑧) = (1 − 𝑧 3 )𝑒 1/𝑧

14. Compute the residue of the function at each singularity:

𝑓(𝑧) = (1 − 𝑧 3 )𝑒 1/𝑧

15. Applying Residue Theorem evaluate the following integral:
