LESSON PLAN
Joint Density Functions
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the 60-minute lesson, the learners should be able to solve joint probability density
function problems.
B. MOTIVATION
The teacher will have a game called “Guess the Word” through pictures and words
presented in the PowerPoint presentation and let the learners guess each word. After which, the
teacher will ask the students what will be the possible lesson of the day.
C. PRESENTATION OF OBJECTIVE AND LESSON PROPER
The teacher will present the objectives and lesson of the day. Then, the teacher will let
the students read it.

GROUP 1
Let X and Y be two jointly continuous random variables with joint PDF.
𝑐𝑥 + 1 𝑥, 𝑦 ≥ 0, 𝑥 + 𝑦 < 1
𝑓𝑋,𝑌 (𝑥, 𝑦) = {
0 otherwise
Find:
• constant c; and
• P(Y<2X2).
GROUP 2
Let X and Y be two jointly continuous random variables with joint PDF.
𝑐𝑥 + 1 𝑥, 𝑦 ≥ 0, 𝑥 + 𝑦 < 1
𝑓𝑋,𝑌 (𝑥, 𝑦) = {
0 otherwise
• Show the range of (X, Y) (X, Y), RXY, in the x −y plane.; and
• Find the marginal PDFs fX(x) and fY(y).
2. Analysis
Based on your activity:
⚫ What have you done to make your answer closer to what is asked?
⚫ What methods and strategies you had used?
⚫ Is there a simpler way solve joint density functions? How?
3. Abstraction
Considering your answer:
⚫ How to solve problems involving joint density functions?
⚫ Was there a formula solve joint density functions?
ACTIVITY: “NEXT STOP, JOINT”

IV. EVALUATION
DIRECTIONS: Read the given problem comprehensively. Find what is being asked and use the
formula in finding your answer. Write your answers in a clean sheet of paper and answer the
problem with 10 minutes.
▪ Let X and Y be two jointly continuous random variables with joint PDF.
