Objective: Students will gain an understanding of the key components of research, including
Introduction, Statement of the Problem and Specific Questions, Significance of the Study, and Scope and
Limitation.
Duration: 1 week
Materials Needed:
 Whiteboard and markers
 Handouts with examples of research articles or access to online research articles
 Projector for multimedia presentation (optional)

Lesson Outline:
1. Introduction to Research -Begin the lesson by asking students what they
understand about research and its importance.
-Provide a brief overview of research, its significance
in academia, and its practical applications in various
fields.
-Use examples from real-life situations or historical
research studies to illustrate the importance of
research.

Discussion: -Engage students in a discussion about different types

of research (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods)
and the purposes they serve.
2. Statement of the Problem and Specific -Explain what a statement of the problem is and why
Questions it's crucial in research.
-Provide examples of clear and concise problem
statements.
-Discuss how to formulate specific research questions
that align with the problem statement.

Group Activity: -Divide students into small groups and they need to
create a specific problem or title.
-Ask each group to develop a statement of the
problem and at least three specific research questions
based on their specific title.

3. Significance of the Study -Define the significance of the study and its
importance in research.
-Show examples of how researchers articulate the
significance of their studies.
-Discuss methods for identifying the significance of a
research study.

4. Scope and Limitation -Define scope and limitation in research and their
roles in setting boundaries for the study.
-Present examples of scope and limitation statements
from research articles.
-Discuss the implications of clearly defining the scope
