B. Course Description
This course aims to enable the students to understand the nature of spoken and
written text, to develop sensitivity to the ways speakers and writers adjust their verbal
communication according to the situation and communication goals, and to use the
rights tools to analyze sets of discourse.

C. Course Objective
At the end of this course, students will be familiar with the basic aspects of the study
of discourse. Assignments and the final exam will focus on the analysis of spoken and
written discourse from different perspectives. Another goal is to enable students to
write desriptive accounts of their analysis of texts/dialogues, and to explain how
discourse analysis contributes to a better understanding of language phenomena.

D. Standart Competence
After this course, the students are expected to:
1. Understand the scopes of discourse analysis,
2. Be able to analyze language use in a wide range.
