RUBRIC FOR ‘EFFECTS OF AN EARTHQUAKE’ PRESENTATION

DATE OF PRESENTATION: March 11 to March 15, 2024 (Double sessions)

OBJECTIVES:

1. Define the term, ‘Earthquake.’


2. Name and locate the selected earthquake.
3. Describe THREE major effects of the selected earthquake using the following
headings;
 Loss Of Life and Injury
 Damage To Property
 Damage Infrastructure
**MUST include specific examples of statistics and facts.
4. Outline measures taken, before, during and after an earthquake.

GROUPS AND TOPICS


Group 1&2: Haiti Earthquake of Jan 12, 2010
 (Measures taken DURING earthquake)
Group 3&4: Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011
 (Measures taken BEFORE earthquake)
Group 5&6: Indian Ocean Earthquake of December 26, 2004
 (Measures taken AFTER earthquake)

Guidelines for PowerPoint Presentation

 Presentation should have a title page and a table of contents


 Presentation should be graphically appealing with RELEVANT images,
photographs, tables, graphs, video links and other graphics as necessary.
 Font should be simple and of appropriate size and colour (dark colour font
(black or blue) on white or light coloured slides)
 Avoid too much writing on slides, use bulleted points
 Language should be clear and easy to understand.
 Include a reference slide or bibliography (APA format)

Instructions for presentation

 The presentation should be a maximum of eight (8) minutes. There WILL be a


penalty for exceeding time limit.
 Presenters should know the content and should avoid reading slides.
 Language should be clear and easy to understand.

Mark Scheme

Content (Three effects and measures) - 15 marks

Delivery (Giving explanation without reading) - 6 marks

Organization, visibility, and creativity - 5 marks

Participation and input of all group members - 4 marks


Total 30 marks
