INTERNATIONAL SIBANGA
2Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has
instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you
want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be
commended.
4For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for
rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to
bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full
time to governing.
7Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then
revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
PRELUDE
Authority entails but not limited to; the right to make rules and the power to enforce
the laid down rules within an organization. The organization would be as small as a
family going through institution of learning to the companies and cooperates.
Emphasis here is put on authority therefore enjoys the right and power to give orders
authorize undertakings and make decision then communicate the same in line with the
objectives vision and mission of the cooperate.
Vs. 2. Emphasized that there is no authority except that which has been established by
God. The authority has been instituted by God himself.
Vs. Those in authority are not terror to good but to the bad
Vs. Those in authority are God’s servants for the good of their subjects
Vs. more emphasis should be put on service to those in authority rather than how they
ascended to the position of authority
(17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because
they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that
their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.)
Because the person in authority will give an account over you; it is emcumbent upon
you to take instructions from that person and bring back the report without delay.
(13. Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether
to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by
him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.)
(18. Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only
to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.)
You are called upon to respect the master whether he is considerate or harsh.
Prayer for those in authority would yield peaceful and quiet lives among the
people paving way for godliness and holiness.
(6 Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of
those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can
hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.”
7“Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you
heart and soul.”)
- Morally
Jonathan’s arm bearer vowed to support the master morally vs 7 “I am with you
heart and soul.”
- When you remember those who presented the word of God to you; you will
remember the word of God in equal measure.
- Consider the outcome of their lives and identify with it.
- Imitate their Faith manarism
8. Respect the Authority (Romans 13:7)
(7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue,
then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
You must give everyone what owe him/her. Give respect and honour where it is
due.)
(12. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she
must be quiet)
Do not carryout yourself as if it is you who is in the authority when you are not. It
did not end up well for Adonijah when he usurped the reigns from the authorities
that God had put in place.
3. Do not gossip nor showed you backbite the authority
4. Do not undermine the authority
5. Do not resist the authority (romans 13:2)
By resisting one in authority, you also resist the ordinance of God thereby receiving
condemnation from the ordainer.
CONCLUSION
Your support to church authority will be by extension support to the growth of the
kingdom of God.
