The SAMCA National Cheerleading Team Program is pleased to announce details for the SAMCA National Cheerleading Team trials for
athletes.

ELIGIBILITY FOR SELECTION

All SAMCA registered athletes are invited to the SAMCA National Team trials.

All athletes who have received Provincial Colours are automatically eligible for selection for SAMCA colours and National Team selection
through the trials process.
N.B. Only athletes who have received their Provincial Colours may be awarded SAMCA Colours at trials and can be selected for a position
on a SAMCA National Cheerleading Team.

Athletes who HAVEN’T been awarded Provincial Colours are invited to attend the SAMCA national team selection process and will be
considered for selection on the National Teams training program or be provisionally selected on the SAMCA National Cheerleading Team,
on the premise that they receive Provincial Colours in their respective provinces.
N.B. Athletes will need to compete in their Provincial Championships in order to trial for Provincial Colours.

Athletes who are selected for the National Cheerleading Teams training program are not provisionally selected on the SAMCA National
Cheerleading Team and will be required to attend National Team Trials in October 2024, only once they have been awarded their Provincial
Colours.

All athletes who DON’T have Provincial Colours will be required to submit a one-minute video showcasing your best stunts, basket tosses,
and tumbling skills of their choice. When submitting the video, please indicate in the email your age, name, surname, and province.

TRIALS PROCESS

The SAMCA Colours and SAMCA National Cheerleading Team trials will be held over two days in Gauteng, and one day in KZN and
Western Cape.

The skills criteria for SAMCA Colours trials and SAMCA National Cheerleading Team selection are both set below in the skills criteria lists.

Provisional SAMCA National Team selection may be awarded based on the execution of the skills criteria, to those who do not have their
Provincial Colours.

Selection for the SAMCA National Team training program will be based on the athlete’s potential to execute the skills criteria.

The selection committee (headed by the SAMCA National Cheerleading Team Head Coach) will conduct trials for the SAMCA National
Team selections. Team selections and SAMCA colours will be based on criteria as set out below in the skills criteria list, athlete potential,
and the condition that the athlete achieves their provincial colours in their province, should they not already have their provincial colours.

Athletes will be assessed on a percentage scale in the following categories, bleep test, stunts, basket tosses, tumbling, and any other
cheerleading elements that the SAMCA National Team Head coach may deem necessary.

All provinces chief adjudicators, cheerleading coaches’ representatives, development officers are welcome to come and observe the trials
process.

The SAMCA Cheerleading Head Coach and selection committee will be visiting the host provinces to conduct the National Team trials. We
encourage all SAMCA registered cheerleading athletes to attend trials.

The deadline for all SAMCA cheerleading athletes to submit application forms, video submissions, and make payment for the National Team
trials is 5 April 2024, 17H00.

SAMCA colours may be awarded to athletes in the following age grid:


Junior athletes – ages 13 and younger in the year of trials.
Senior athletes – ages 14 and older in the year of trials (must be registered in a high school).
Tertiary athletes – ages 18 and older in the year of trials (must not be registered in a high school).

SAMCA National Cheerleading Team athlete selection will follow the following age grid:
Youth – 12 to 14 in the year of competition (competition is in 2025).
Junior – 15 to 18 in the year of competition (competition is in 2025).
Senior – 16 and older in the year of competition (competition is in 2025).

N.B. The above list is a guideline only and athletes are evaluated on the potential to execute the above skills criteria. The SAMCA National
Team Head Coach and selection committee will also evaluate athletes on a variety of attributes. Athletes shouldn’t be discouraged or
intimidated by the skills criteria list, the list is a guideline for athletes and the SAMCA National Team Head Coach and selection committee
will be assessing athletes over the whole weekend on various elements.

DRESS CODE AND IMAGE POLICY

• All training athletes are to wear black bottoms and a plain white top, and suitable shoes for cheerleading.
• Black bottoms can be full length, ¾, or shorts.
• Plain white tops should have sleeves and cover the midriff.
• No team identification should be worn by athletes attending the trials.

All athletes registered to participate in the SAMCA National Team Trials will receive a number at registration on the first day of trials and will
need to display their number throughout the trials process.

In line with the ICU and SAMCA image policy we request that athletes avoid excessive make-up, glitter, stickers, etc and that athletes
portray the image of athleticism in their dress and grooming.

N.B.
• All athletes should bring their own snacks, lunch, and water to the trials.
• Only athletes who are 18+ will be permitted to leave the venue during the lunch break. It is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure they are
back and ready when the next section after lunch begins.
• Pack sunscreen and remove all jewellery.

The deadline for your Google online application form, video submission, and proof of payment is 5 April 2024, 17H00. No late entries will be
accepted. It is your responsibility to confirm receipt of your application by email to sanationalcheerteam@gmail.com or

Athletes who have NOT been awarded provincial colours yet and wish to participate in the National Cheerleading Team trials need to submit
a one-minute video showcasing your best stunts, basket tosses, and tumbling skills of their choice to sanationalcheerteam@gmail.com or
absolutecheerandtumbling@gmail.com by 5 April 2024, 17H00. Please indicate in the email your age, name, and surname as well as the
province you are in.

We would greatly appreciate you submitting forms and payments as soon as possible to assist us in confirming numbers and planning
accordingly.

PAYMENT

The cost for each athlete to participate in the trials process is R450.00 this cost is equalised across all athletes in the different provinces.

The trials fee will go towards helping to cover the cost of the following:
• Venue.
• Medics.
• Coaches’ flights to different provinces.
• Subsidising out of province athletes travel costs.
• Additional running costs of the trials.

PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ACT (POPI ACT) – POPIA

• The purpose of the collection of personal information is to ensure we have a complete record of all athletes for contact, authentication,
and submission purposes to the relevant Sporting Authorities.
• SAMCA undertakes not to share any of the personal information with any third party, except its affiliated Provincial Associations, The
Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and SASCOC as may be required to process and facilitate the awarding of official sport colours
to the athlete and statistical submission required by SAMCA, without the consent of the subject.
• SAMCA undertakes to treat all personal information as strictly confidential and to take such appropriate technical and organisational
measures as may be required to protect against unauthorised or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction or damage,
alteration, disclosure, or access.
• The personal information will only be kept for the period required to fulfil the purpose of the collection or such further period as required
by law.
