The value of joseki in a game is so big that most professional baduk players have a deep
understanding of a majority of the joseki and variations encountered in recent actual game
situations. Joseki have set patterns which once selected can lead to variations flowing
thousands of ways. During this process of selection, how to select the right joseki to work well
with the surrounding stones is very important. If a new move or joseki appears in an actual
game, the difference can be enormous where one side lacks the knowledge to respond
appropriately; victory can swiftly flow to the other side which played the new move. Therefore,
professional baduk players pay careful attention to any new moves and variations which
appear. The new moves and joseki in this book have benefited from the repeated research
undergone by many professional baduk players before being finalized in this form. To adjust to
the needs of amateurs, the variations have been tidied up with the hope of helping everyone
improve their baduk strength.
"When we now speak of the Korean Trend, we are not referring only to the novel moves and
shapes which the Koreans were the first to use; but we also include the newest attempts by
Japan and China. Afterwards, Korean baduk players conducted even deeper levels of research
followed by repeated appraisals and analysis before finalizing new models of joseki. The
contents of this book is developed from issues of Baduk Monthly published by the Korean
Baduk Academy from the two year period of 2000 to 2001. At the same time, expansion and
revision were applied to reflect the latest trends.
The main purpose of this book is to provide an organized look at the Korean Trend joseki and
fuseki. Through this book, we may move beyond the 1990's to sneak a peek at the formative
processes and special characterics of Korean Baduk research and expositions which resulted in
such new fuseki and joseki representative of the current era."

Ms. Feng and Mr. Jiang are probably North America's two strongest
players; this promises to be the matchup of the year. Pro
commentary from the Congress will be simulcast along with the
game itself as at progresses.

They are two of the top players, but definetly not the two
strongest. The 2 strongest would probably be Jie Li and Feng Yun.

Go Seigen's 18 Most Memorable Games of My Life - Now I Would Play This Way ISBN 7-
80073-849-3
.A.~+Arcu - IlH:Ett~~H'r (.'.,~~~)
This book showcases 18 games Go Seigen has self-selected to illustrate what he thinks are the
best games he has ever played. His comments on the games will provide a lot of material for
avid go players to learn how a go master thinks about moves. The games were played over a
period from 1928 to 1959.
This book is edited by Yamabe Tashiro , so I would venture to say it is probably the chinese
translation of "Gendai Joseki Jiten".
My copy is a 2nd printing from 1989 which I purchased from the kongfz used bookstores
network.
This edition of Guanzi Pu was published 2007 .2 with a print run of 2000 so don't hesitate too
long or it'll be OOP soon.
This book is based on "Weiqi Technique Encyclopedia (Guanzi Pu)" edited by Jiang Zhujiu and
Jiang Mingjiu but does not include all the problems in the previous book. It follows the same
format and has corrected some of the deficiencies from previous versions. (ch. 1-6)
In addition to problems from Guanzi Pu, it has been expanded to include 4 chapters of 9X9
problems for high level self-testing. (ch. 7-10)

Babelfish translates the concept of Baoliu (~ii) as retention and I have used this in my
translation.
This concept is not currently an entry on SL so I had to look it up in the book, Contemporary
Go Terms by Chihyung Nam, which provides the translations and definition as follows:
English: reserve
Chinese: baoliu (~ii)
Japanese: horyusuru
Korean: boryuhada
To leave a local position as it is and wait to see how the situation around it develops before
playing.
