The smart tachograph version 2 is mandatory for newly reg-
istered vehicles as of 21 August 2023 and for all vehicles in-
volved in international transport as of 21 August 2025.
The digital/smart tachographʼs traditional mission has been
the enforcement of the “Social legislation in road transport”,
notably the respect of driving/resting periods, working time
or activity recording are key aspects of this legislation.
The smart tachograph version 2 also supports the control
and enforcement of additional legislation in the area of road
transport: “Cabotage” and “Posting of workers”.
The smart tachograph version 2 will implement a basic Ge-
ographic Information System of national borders in order to
register the position and time when a border crossing be-
tween two different countries takes place. Registration of
load type of vehicle as well as loading and unloading locations
will also be monitored.
The tachograph is ADR approved if the vehicle is specified
with ADR.
Remote communication and satellite connection
The remote communication DSRC (Dedicated Short Range
Communication) is between the on-board unit and roadside
enforcement officers, so that they can target and avoid unnec-
essary roadside checks.
The satellite positioning system GNSS (Global Navigation
Satellite System), GPS or GLONASS, is in order to automati-
cally record the location of the start and end of the daily work

period and positions for every 3 hours of accumulated driving.
Fits into a standard DIN slot
The unit consists of processor, data memory, two smart card
readers, printer, display, real-time clock, visual warning, op-
erating controls, calibration/downloading connector and con-
nectors for the vehicle interface.

The digital tachograph has DSRC remote communication and GNSS connection to the global navigation satellite system. It also has a separate motion sensor on
gearbox and is equipped with four types of smart cards. The system has possibility to remote communication between on-board unit and roadside enforcement officers,
so that they can avoid unnecessary roadside checks.

The capacity of the system memory is sufficient to record
activities for approximately 365 days and the driver card
holds about 56 days of driver activity.

Dynafleet or Fleet Management System (FMS-PK) also are

Speed data for the latest 24 hours is stored in the unitʼs
mass memory. The real-time clock has a battery backup and
the minimum operating time without external power supply is
1 year. The UTC, Coordinated Universal Time, can be adjusted
maximum 1 minute/week to avoid manipulation of the driver
time. Local date and time for the country where the vehicle is
registered are displayed and can be set by changing the offset
