Work immersion in nursing is a hands-on learning experience where nursing students

participate in real-world clinical settings under the supervision of registered nurses or

other healthcare professionals. It aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice,
developing essential clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, communication skills, and
professionalism among students. The duration of work immersion experiences varies,
ranging from weeks to months, depending on the nursing program's curriculum
requirements. Students may undertake experiences in various clinical settings, such as
hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and community health centers. Supervision by registered
nurses ensures safety and well-being. Learning objectives include mastering basic nursing
skills, developing critical thinking abilities, and enhancing communication skills. Work
immersion experiences are integrated into the nursing curriculum, complementing
classroom-based learning activities. Assessment and evaluation are based on performance
in clinical practice, professional standards, and learning objectives.

The nursing work immersion experience was a transformative journey that transitioned
from classroom theory to real-world practice. The first days involved orientation and
familiarization with the hospital/ clinic environment, followed by a clinical setting in a
medical-surgical unit. The immersion allowed the student to develop communication skills
and bedside manner, fostering trust and rapport with patients. Challenges included
balancing multiple patient assignments, addressing urgent needs, and adapting to
unexpected situations. Interprofessional collaboration was essential, with physicians
consulting with allied health professionals and coordinating care with physicians.
