Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

Students will improve their writing with current knowledge and previous vocabulary. Students
will learn the concept of graduation.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Students will think of advice for their student teacher, write multiple sentences, and draw a
picture that relates to graduation.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

Students will be given a brief explanation of what graduation is and the years they will have
something similar (5th, 8th, and 12th). I will give them time to think of some advice they might
have for someone who is graduating. Then I will guide them as they write multiple sentences.
They will show correct use of capitalization, punctuation, and spacing within their writing.
Once writing is finished, students can draw an image that connects to their writing.
CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the
teaching of this lesson plan.)

Students can participate in collaborative discussions with peers and adults in small groups.
Students will be able to ask questions, follow agreed-upon rules, and build on each other in
discussions. Students will use frequently occurring conjunctions (e.g., and, but, or, so,
because).

Instructional Procedures

 Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)
I will get my small group of student's attention with a verbal cue for example, “Be quiet
in 5, 4, 3, 2,1.”

 Instructional Strategies (Click into that link for help describing all instructional methods you
will employ during the lesson. Remember, instructional strategies fall into one or more of the
following broad categories: DIRECT, INDIRECT, EXPERIENTIAL, INTERACTIVE,
INDEPENDENT STUDY)

I will use direct instruction to introduce new concepts and direct writing. I will use
interactive instruction when I ask students to share their writing.

 Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

I will engage students by giving them writing topic suggestions, then ask what they
chose to write about.

 Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the
lesson?

I will ensure that students are involved with individual check-ins on their progress.

 Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

I will end the lesson by asking students to share their progress with me and turn it in
when done.

 Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning
targets?)

I will assess student achievement of the lesson goal by their ability to write full and
complete sentences of advice, that will be completed when it is turned in.

with the full class. Remember to include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard
