GREEK WEEK AT APP STATE

Greek Week is a week during the spring semester when the members of the fraternity and
sorority community come together around events of celebration - be it community service events
or events that celebrate fraternities and sororities. Fraternity and sorority chapters are paired
with each other in teams and compete to win points in order to determine who the Greek Week
champions are. Points are determined by who wins events and/or who has the highest
participation and contributes the most to the community service effort.

WHY PARTICIPATE IN GREEK WEEK?

Greek Week is an opportunity for Fraternity and Sorority life chapters to participate as a whole
community and build connections across chapters. Greek Week is designed to bring about unity
throughout the Appalachian State University Fraternity and Sorority Life community. The events
have been planned to cater to all Fraternity and Sorority Life members and appeal to each
chapter’s interests. This week is created not only as time for brothers and sisters to spend more
time together, but to also forge new friendships amongst FSL members. Greek Week seeks to
instill the importance of not only being a member of a respective chapter, but also a member of
our Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Additionally, all funds raised throughout the week will
be donated to our community partners. Greek Week should bring about a sense of community
and reinforce our commitment to serve as Fraternity and Sorority Life members.

2024 THEME: GREETINGS FROM GREEK WEEK

The 2024 Greek Week theme is “Greetings from Greek Week”. Think postcards, tourists, road
trips. Each chapter has been assigned to a team, and each team has been assigned to a
different city.

Student organizations are encouraged to find new and creative ways to integrate the
"Greetings from Greek Week" theme throughout the week and within Greek Week
competitions.

The team assignments are listed below.

Greek Week Blood Drive

Each Spring, Fraternity and Sorority Life partners with The Office of Community-Engaged
Leadership to put on a Greek Week blood drive. The Office of Community-Engaged Leadership
and the American Red Cross depend on our students to donate blood, organize, plan, promote,
and facilitate this life-saving event.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Blood is needed for
emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia, and other
illnesses. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live. Only 38% of the population is
able to donate, and sadly less than 10% of the eligible population will actually ever donate.
Currently, blood donors are the only source of blood for those in need; there is simply no
substitute for blood.

Individuals who have not been fully vaccinated will be required to wear face masks and socially
distance during their time at the event. Protocols and FAQs may be found on the American Red
Cross website. Donors will also receive a t-shirt, refreshments, and be eligible for special prizes.

Fill out this form to reserve a donation appointment time.

10% of your team must be registered and show up to their donation appointment to get the 150
available Greek Week Points.
