UNIT 6 PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENT 5282

Flipped classrooms entails that students engage with the material out of class, in the traditional
classrooms the teacher works hard to deliver the new information and promote learning in the
classroom, however, with flipped learning students are given the time and space to discover the
new material at home before class, while the class is dedicated to practical activities which allows
students ameliorate their knowledge. As described by Walvoord and Anderson and Lage ‘’Flipped
classrooms require that students gain first exposure prior to class and uses assignments (in this case,
quizzes) to help ensure that students come to class prepared.’’

I use flipped approach with my students, I assign them some work to do out of the classroom like
reading, watching videos, searching, or accessing resources…etc and in the classroom I provide
sometime for interactive discussion, hands on activities that lead to deeper understanding so that
students can use the skills acquired in the class with situations that are not covered in the class
previously using their own way. In my point of view, flipped approach helps at fostering students’
knowledge because it supports students- centered learning. Students feel that they are the
responsible for their own learning; they make effort to search for the information and to compete
with the other classmates. Furthermore, I believe it ameliorates the students’ educational practice
because students have the opportunity to participate in peer instruction, and group discussion,
through which all the students exchange knowledge and acquire new ones.

Challenges:

Some of the challenges I encounter when flipping the classroom are:

 Sometimes I found some difficulty with parental support, some of them are busy with their
work, they do not provide enough time to their children to guide them to do their
assignments.
 Some of the students don’t complete the assignments because of the lack of time
management.
 Some of students do not have the technological tools to do the research needed.

Advantages:

Some of the instructional advantages I noticed are:

 Students feel that they are more responsible of their own learning
 Students like to collaborate with other students
 Students are always ready to do new work, they do not feel bored.
 Students take their time to prepare the assignments.
