1 SCOPE
The following procedures contain requirements for the protection of equipment and
materials during storage and installation at the fabrication yard. These procedures are the
responsibility of the warehouseman and appropriate crafts, as assigned by the
CONTRACTOR. These procedures describe areas of maintenance that are “different
from” or “in addition to” normal storage procedures. The objective is to ensure that the
material are stored in a manner that is acceptable to COMPANY and to ensure that no
damage, excessive corrosion or degradation of any kind can occur and that the rotating,
fabricated and miscellaneous equipment and material are kept in as new condition
throughout all phase’s of the project.
Equipments Supplier preservation and protection requirement are detailed in the project
specific “Supplier Equipment Preservation and Protection Requirement Procedure”.
2.1 Delivery Check: Upon delivery to site of the equipment it shall be jointly checked
with Company representative with-in 2 working days after receipt of goods to
ensure the initial preservation is intact
2.2 If initial examination reveals that equipment has been damaged then the site’s
Project Material Coordinator shall immediately notify COMPANY before
proceeding with further processing of the equipment. Equipment and material
shall be checked and inspected for physical, water/humidity damage and for
missing items. The site Project Material Coordinator shall prepare a detailed
inspection report on each piece of tagged equipment received and inspected
onsite with an Overage Shortage and Damage report.
2.3 The instructions noted on the packing crates and in the shipping documents shall
be regarded as mandatory during handling and storage
2.4 Once the equipment is accepted by the Project Material Coordinator it is placed
into the correct storage environment detailed in this specification and the person
responsible for preservation shall be informed
2.5 All equipment shipped with protective covers or plugs over openings and with
corrosion preventative coatings applied on exterior machined and threaded
surfaces shall have these protective devices.
2.6 If water or dirt has entered the equipment through broken, damaged or improperly
secured covers and plugs, the equipment shall be cleaned and dried (to remove
moisture) before plugs and coatings are restored, the remedial works shall be
recorded. In event damage has occurred to equipment due to damaged protective
covers, vendor shall be contacted immediately and pictures of damage taken to
record this damage.

COMPANY.
3.1 The offloading and handling of the equipment shall be done in a safe and careful
manner. Special attention shall be given to fragile equipment and adequate
precautions taken to prevent damage during the lifting and transportation. (Refer
to manufacturer’s recommendation applicable on handling).
4 STORAGE
4.1 Whenever possible and subject to climatic conditions, equipment shall be stored
under a temporary cover to provide weather protection. Bulk materials such as
piping which have been suitably preserved may be stored outside on suitable
supports keeping clear of the ground by a minimum of 150mm.
4.2 Sensitive equipment shall be stored in designated store rooms which are vented
and kept clean. Please refer to paragraph for sensitive equipment.
4.3 Items that are to be installed indoors and are not rainproof shall be stored indoors,
some items require temperature controlled conditions and must be stored in a
temperature controlled storeroom.
4.4 All buildings used for the storage of equipment shall have authorized entry in
order to allow for proper material control.
4.5 Bulk Storage Items: Whenever possible bulk material is to be stored in designated
storage areas away from the construction environment which will minimize
exposure and allow accurate planning of material requirements.
4.7 Adequate precautions must be taken to protect the installed equipments against
possible damage in connection with installation and construction works that are
happening with-in the vicinity of the item i.e. crated or trapped.
5 SPARE PARTS

protection. Covers over equipment shall be placed in a manner so as to allow for
air circulation.
8.2 All large pieces of equipment must be stored upright in a level attitude.
8.3 In general, equipment shall be left in the original shipping cases and covered until
ready to be installed. Items requiring removal from shipping cases for identification
or renewal of protective coating should be returned to the cases until needed for
installation. Items such as covers removed for inspection, must be replaced and
secured in a manner to prevent leakage or loss.
8.4 Where work is in progress alongside the equipment in storage, the stored
equipment shall be protected against deterioration due to relative movement such
as vibration in bearings, mechanical seals, flexible couplings, instruments and
rotor-to-stator clearances by providing temporary support or removal to a separate
storage area.
8.5 Should equipment remain in an exposed position for more than the vendor’s
recommended storage time, it shall be disassembled, cleaned and the
preservative renewed.

it shall be restored in accordance with the following procedures. If water or dirt has
entered the equipment, it shall be thoroughly cleaned before the preventative
treatment is restored.
9.4 All rotating equipment internally protected with a lubricating oil base rust
preventative shall be manually turned two or three revolutions (in the correct
direction of rotation) at one week intervals. Care should be taken that the final
position of the shafts after turning is at least one quarter revolution from the point
at which rotation was started. Oil levels shall be checked at the time of rotation. A
log shall be kept to record these actions.
9.5 All internal, unpainted surfaces shall be protected against corrosion by fogging
(spraying) with a lubricating oil base rust preventative or filling with an inert gas,
depending on the nature of the service and type of equipment.

9.6 Bearing housings shall be filled to the bottom of the shaft/labyrinth bushings with
preservation oil for ball, roller and sleeve type bearings and pad type thrust
bearings. See Section 11.0 for a list of lubricants and rust preventatives.
9.7 All rotating equipment shall be stored inside the warehouse until needed for
installation.
9.8 These procedures shall continue through storage, installation and up to test
running (pre-commissioning). All preservations shall be renewed after test
running.
9.9 Any desiccant type protection used shall be so installed so as not to come in
contact with the equipment.
9.10 Equipment with internal protection installed shall be tagged with waterproof tags
(red in color) stating type of internal protection and location of same. This shall
also be noted on the equipment logs. This applies to both petroleum preservatives
and desiccant.
10.1 All electrical and instrumentation equipment shall be stored in a warehouse, note
some of this type of specifically electric equipment requires air conditioning under
