REACTION PAPER
EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL

“Every Child is Special”, a film about a child that struggles with dyslexia disorder
and powerfully communicates the essentiality of recognizing and nurturing each child’s
unique capabilities, challenging the conventional educational system and societal norms
that overlook the individuality and special talents of children. This film was directed by
Aamir Khan which also acts as Ram Shamkar Nikumb that serves as the mentor of
Ishaan. Ishaan is an eight year old boy that struggles with dyslexia disorder and his
condition rings a big challenge to him.

The film presents some pictures of how dyslexia, a common learning difficulty, is
often misunderstood by parents, educators and the society at large. Ishaan’s struggles
with reading and writing, which are met with punishments and ridicule highlight the need
for a deeper understanding of such conditions. This lack of understanding not only
exacerbates Ishaan’s difficulties but also impacts his self-esteem and mrntal health.

The character of Ram Shankar Nikumbh, and emphatic and dedicated teacher,
embodies the significant role educators can play in shaping a child’s life. Nikumbh’s
ability to identify Ishaan’s talent and his efforts who can recognize and nurture the
unique potential in each child. His teaching methods, which deviate from traditional rote
learning and individual focused learning education.

The film advocates for the recognition of each child’s individuality. We must
respect each child’s ability and uniqueness. It challenges the societal norms that equate
academic excellence with intelligence, thereby ignoring the unique talents and
capabilities of children like Ishaan. By showcasing Ishaan’s exceptional artistic abilities,
and a very imaginative mind.

Therefore, in conclusion this film is compelling narrative that underscores the

importance of understanding learning difficulties, the role of empathetic educators, and
the recognition of each child’s individuality. This film serves as a reminder of the need
for a shift in perspective in the way society and educational institutions perceive and
nurture the capabilities of children.
